Coming Out of the Shadows: Rusty Buchert Talks Latest Project

50°
324w ago - I've been a fan of the demo scene since the early '90s, so this caught my eye. Without further ado, from Rusty Buchert, Sr. Producer, Everyday Shooter:

Hi all, my name is Rusty Buchert and I am the Sr. Producer for Linger in Shadows. Some of you may have heard about it already from coverage here and there, but there are a lot of questions surrounding this unique title.

It will be releasing on the PlayStation Network on October 9, so I wanted to explain today about what Linger is and what it isn't. I'll start with the easier side, and that is Linger in Shadows is NOT a game. It was never meant to be a game and it will never be a game. Yes it has trophies, but it still isn't a game and I'll explain why a little later on.

So then, what the heck is it? There are a few different answers to that question and I'm going to try and cover them here. So here is the short version and then I'll ramble on in more detail. Linger in Shadows was created by Plastic, from the demoscene. It is an experiment with the demoscene and it is an experiment in Interactive Digital Art.

Now for the first part: what the heck is the demoscene...

Concept: PS3 USB Port / Card Reader Plate Unveiled

350°
326w ago - On the official PS3 EU boards (linked above) st0rmbr1nger has announced news of his new PS3 USB port/card reader plate concept.

He states that the lack of card slots on the PS3 is a real problem, this coupled with a shortage of USB ports means that some new product development is needed! So whats the big idea? A plate which connects to one of the existing USB ports using a slimline USB header with ribbon down the plate.

A multitude of ports, and a MS and SD card reader slot are also supplied bringing this bang up to date! At the back of the plate there are more ports for those always connected, but want to be hidden devices. He also suggests a deluxe version which could be made out of aluminum, therefore providing an extra heatsink for the PS3.

To quote: Don't think anyone has done anything like this. The lack of card slots on the PS3 is a killer, all the current card readers are clumsy and look messy, the shortage of USB ports is also a problem (USB can support upto 256 ports per controller..)

Warhammer Online's Cut Content Will be Added for Free Later

50°
326w ago - Fans of massively multiplayer games who were looking forward to Warhammer Online were understandably shaken this summer when it was announced that some major features were being pulled from the game.

However, those worried fans can now take heart. Speaking to 1UP earlier today about this week's public launch of their new game, Mythic Entertainment general manager Mark Jacobs assured us that the cut content that does find its way back into Warhammer Online will be reintroduced free of charge -- not as part of a paid expansion.

"Are we going to put [the pulled content] in a paid expansion? No," Jacobs explained. "What I've told the users point blank is that we want to give it to you as part of subscription content. We don't have a schedule penciled in for when that will be coming, but we're going to release it without any additional charge to players."

The cuts, announced in July to help keep the game on track for a fall release as well as sharpen up the content that is in the shipping version, included four of the six planned capital cities and four classes. Jacobs told us that though four cities were pulled from the game for the time being, they took the content that had been spread out in those cities and poured it back into the remaining two capitals. "We didn't cut one-third the...

First PES 2009 Review in Spain, Translated to English!

250°
326w ago - It appears that the first PES 2009 review has surfaced from Spanish publication Hobby Consolas. PES fan Web site WinningElevenBlog.com (linked above) has translated the review, and while it is a distinct improvement from PES 2008, there are a number of parts of the review that stick out like a sore thumb.

Firstly, the game is stuck on last year's disappointing engine and secondly the magazine admits the game hasn't found the 'sweet spot' on new consoles.

However, this hasn't stopped them awarding the game a score of 92%, but last year a number of Web sites also gave PES 2008 high scores despite huge disappointment from vast amounts of fans. To quote their summary:

- 8 different cameras, and each of them at 3 heights
- It also mentions that all 32 CL teams have full kits and names
- Players change facial expression when they lose the ball, they scream
- A.I. has improved very much according to the article
- The players are very much like the real counterparts
- Great illumination and weather effects
- 19 Stadiums
- 8 Players, 4 Online for regular match
- 7 players, 8 online for Become a Legend
- The Spanish commentators are great
- For kit editing, add images for Logos AND sponsors
- Share replays with friends through the Internet
