200w ago - Today SCEE's Community Team Moderator Yaster has detailed the PS3 entertainment system's new invite system for text chatting that is built into the PlayStation 3 XMB.
To use it, simply head to a Chat Room, load up a supported game and click the relevant option (for Bioshock 2, this is "Manage Invites". From there, select the empty box at the top as normal.
When you do this, though, in addition to inviting from your friends list or a new Online ID, you'll see Invite From Chat Room - click it, and the XMB will list your current Chat Rooms - pick one and it'll invite everyone in that lobby.
Currently supported games are limited to Bioshock 2, The Aliens vs Predator Demo and Call of Duty: Classic but hopefully the number of titles with this new feature will grow.
From the guide, to quote: How to invite chat room players into a (supported) game
Hot on the heels of my previous guide to "that" invite system in MW2 I now bring you something which I think a few of may not be aware of.
The PlayStation 3 firmware has a feature which allows you to invite players in your active text chat room straight into...
201w ago - In order to accomodate the Torne digital TV recorder add-on announced for Japan, Sony's PS3 will be getting an officially licensed 500GB external hard drive next month.
PC hardware maker Buffalo announced today news of two external hard drives that have been granted official recognition from Sony, which apparently is the first time Sony has granted licensing to hard drive peripherals.
To quote: "Both drives have 500GB capacity and connect to the PS3 via an included USB 2.0 cable. The ¥14,800 Piano Black HD-AV500U2/SC sits horizontally and has a meter on its front showing remaining space.
The ¥11,800 Black HD-CL500U2/SC stands vertically but lacks the meter. They're both pre-formatted in a FAT32 format, allowing for immediate connection to the PS3.
In addition to being used as an external recording device for Torne, the drives can also be used for backup and restore of the PS3's internal hard drive, and for saving and playback of videos, pictures and music."
202w ago - SCEA Product Marketing Manager Chris Munson has revealed today on the PlayStation Blog that those who pre-order MLB 10: The Show will be entitled to some free classic stadiums!
To quote: The Show is all about bringing all the big moments in baseball to life, and the pre-order program is something we are really excited about.
Pre-order the PS3 version of MLB 10: The Show at any of these retailers here (pre-order the PS2 or PSP versions!) and get a "6-Pack" of Classic Stadiums at no additional charge.
These stadiums are some of the most famous in Major League Baseball history, so the team down in San Diego has spent a great deal of time making sure each stadium is to exact specifications. So when the game launches on March 2, punch in the voucher code on your PS3 and you'll be able to play on the same fields as some of the all-time greats.
*Stadium Pack not available for PS2 or PSP systems.

To quote: "Implemented in partnership with Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong, the developer of PlayStation 3, the PS3 Game Poles comprise a total of 14 units of PlayStation 3.

204w ago - A PS3 owner has revealed to Gizmodo (linked above) that his Sony PlayStation 3 console became a little burnt after plugging in a Psychlone HDMI cable.
The big fry up ended after around 10 seconds once the cord had eventually melted off, however, it still caused quite a bit of damage.
To quote: "He had his PS3 plugged into an electrical source although it wasn't running any games at the time of this. He plugged in his Psyclone HDMI cable from his Samsung 32-inch flatpanel TV to the PS3 when the sparks started flying.
A flame actually shot up out of the PS3, and sparks were firing out of both ends where the HDMI cable met with the ports. The mess ended in 10 seconds when the cord melted off. Pictures included.
We cannot figure out why/how this occurred. No breakers were tripped, no damage or discoloration to any wall outlets or other power sources. Only the HDMI ports."
