200°
359w ago - Bandai Namco Games announced today a free update adds new modes and gameplay fixes for the Japanese version of Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection Online. It includes Dual Shock 3 rumble support and a Pickup Match Mode.

Japanese owners will get the update when they start up the game on March 18th at 1pm, there are no details of an international version yet, but is expected around the same time.

Here's a list of major changes:

* Pickup Match Mode: a mode where you continually face off in one-on-one matches without having to got through a matching room. You can set conditions to search for an opponent, then battle the same opponent repeatedly, or have the computer search for new opponents following each match.

* Dual Shock 3 rumble support

* You can now create and display names for rooms

* Adjustments to allotment of points when winning and losing battles

* "Flag" option added to room creation and searching, allowing you to create and search for rooms that have been flagged with specific conditions

* Players who are waiting for their turn to fight will be alerted via sound effects and rumble when the time has come.

* When Rank Match has been set to off, your win/loss is no longer recorded and you do not earn battle points.

Another Home rumor: Home BETA to end in May?

100°
359w ago - A PlayStation Home BETA tester's account page states that Sony's closed beta will be ending on 5/15/08.

This has sparked rumors that the open BETA or even the launch of Home could be around that date.

To quote: Either way, we wouldn't hold our breathe for Home to magically appear any time soon in a firmware update... especially since 2.4, expected this summer, has not been rumored to contain Home.

New Heavy Rain Details Spilled, Lapped Up

359w ago - While most of us in North America don't read the Dutch magazine Chief, one of our readers abroad pointed out that they'd run a major exclusive on upcoming Quantic Dream/Sony title Heavy Rain. (You know Quantic Dream as the company behind Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy, and you know Heavy Rain from my fanboy obsession).

Joystiq Reader Saimon was kind enough to translate some of the more enticing statements about the title made by Quantic Dream's founder David Cage.

On Locations:
"I don't want to do a big free-roaming city like GTA, because the flow of the story will then be hard to control. Nevertheless, I do want to incorporate big sets, with a crowd, heavy populated areas like a mall and a subway are going to be in there. Of course, the gameplay has got to make use of that aspect too."

On Graphics:
"People will be surprised. Internal (Sony's) feedback on graphics has been great. This is going to be a truly next-gen game. But still, we want to do something unique with the graphics, going beyond just making the most photorealistic world we can."

On Gameplay:
"With the release of Fahrenheit, we gave the adventure genre a new grammar. We brought new ways into the genre, new words if you want to see it like that, a new vocabulaire. With Heavy Rain, where going to expand...

Tekken 6: Hands-On Preview for PS3!

100°
359w ago - The original Tekken was not only the first PlayStation game to sell a million copies, but it was also the first title in a series that for more than twelve years has helped define Sony's PlayStation brand. Later this year, the seventh instalment - Tekken 6 - will be released for the PlayStation 3, a console that would arguably benefit from some sort of definition.

The Tekken series may have found worldwide success due to its home console versions, but its origin and home is in the arcades. Tekken 6 was released in Japan in November last year, and has quickly amassed a hardcore following. But what if you don't live in Japan and are desperate to play the latest instalment of the hugely popular brawler?

Well, there appears to be a shortage of cabinets for the US and Europe, and as of right now Tekken 6 is only available in select Namco operated sites. Fortunately for yours truly, I happen to live less than 2 miles away from a Namco Station in the UK, which recently took delivery of four brand spanking new Tekken 6 cabinets. The cabinets themselves feature 720p displays and are powered by a unique PlayStation 3 based arcade board, meaning that the home console port should be the truest and most faithful home port of a Tekken game yet.

Those hoping for a complete re-invention will be disappointed,...
