If You Want The FFXIII Demo Start Saving For Last Remnant

50°
348w ago - Earlier this year we posted reports from Japanese Gaming Magazines Famitsu and Degeki speaking of a Final Fantasy XIII demo. Tetsuya Nomura, Character Designer for the Final Fantasy XIII, said himself that they plan on releasing a demo so fans of the series and everyone else anticipating the game can see the battle system in real-time for themselves.

This announcement, along with earlier speculation in 2007 about a possible demo, has led to various debates about the format the demo would come in, and to whom it would be open to. A Playstation Network demo, a solo demo disc, or possibly packaged another Square Enix game, all of these are possible. We're going to dissect the ramifications of each of the possibilities to see which we can expect in the near future from Square.

Playstation Network (PSN) Release

A PSN released demo is a no brainer for most of us these days. Anyone interested in demos with a PSN account has downloaded at least a few and took them for a spin. Burnout Paradise, Devil May Cry 4, Motorstorm and Uncharted are all examples of extremely popular demos for the Playstation 3, and they were all released through the Playstation Network. However, many triple-A games have breezed past releasing PSN demos, such as Assassin's Creed and Metal Gear Solid 4. Ubisoft simply did not release...

GDC: New action IP will be deeper than Enemy Territory

50°
348w ago - Talking to videogaming247 ahead of GDC in San Francisco today, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars developer Splash Damage has confirmed that it's now working on a brand new IP - an action project leading on PC - and that it will be as "deep, or deeper" than last year's id franchise-shooter.

The studio is currently negotiating a deal with an unspecified publisher on the new title.

Start of work on the game is responsible for the studio's recently announced recruitment drive.

"We want to demonstrate that we can do something completely new," said Splash Damage owner Paul Wedgwood, adding that ongoing attempts to make Enemy Territory: Quake Wars easier on new players had informed the entire approach to the new game, with "a third" of the company's efforts going into making an interface to help out newbies.

"Accessibility is the key," he said. "The new game will be as deep, or deeper, than Enemy Territory, but easier to get into."

Wedgwood said that the PC remained the key focus for prototyping and development at Splash Damage, with Texan developer Nerve Software handling the company's console versions.

"The PC is really strong," he said. "But you have to develop specifically for the PC, because back-porting from consoles just doesn't...

Why Microsoft will announce an Xbox Blu-ray player soon

50°
348w ago - Now that Engadget is reporting Toshiba will wave the white flag tomorrow and finally put an end to the high-def format war once and for all, there are a whole new set of questions that must be answered.

Will Toshiba move to Blu-ray? What will the company do with the technology? Will it sell the HD DVD name to the Blu-ray folks?

But perhaps most importantly, what will Microsoft do? The company has been a staunch supported of HD DVD since the beginning and it currently offers an HD DVD add-on for its Xbox 360 console. But now that the format is dead and the rightful winner is ready to be crowned, will Microsoft ignore the format war and go about its business or try to jump on the Blu-ray bandwagon?

Trust me -- within a month, the company will announce a Blu-ray add-on for the Xbox 360.

A month ago, that very assertion would have sounded ludicrous to all but the most cynical of tech followers. But after one short month, quite a bit has changed and suddenly Microsoft is far behind Sony in the HD realm.

Consider this -- the Playstation 3 has officially become the only console that's capable of playing high-def movies and although some may still find some benefit in owning Microsoft's HD DVD player, it wouldn't surprise me if they landed in the junkyard in a matter of minutes...

Haze: Big improvements made, will be released very soon!

348w ago - A post in the Official Ubisoft Forums by a Free Radical Staff:

Sorry guys but Haze is NOT Duke Nukem Forever

Normally we have to be a bit careful about what we say on forums in case it incurs the wrath of Neko or Dr. Doak for giving too much info away, but this time I'm very safe in saying that Haze is coming.

While we can't explicitly say what improvements we've made (I'd love to tell you all the cool stuff we've been putting in!...but I also love my job too lol) I can guarantee you that the extra bit of time has made a big difference for the better.

We understand the frustration caused by shifting things around a bit, but we just want to make sure things are right for the people who'll be playing Haze *very* soon...

348w ago - With all the hype around Street Fighter IV: Giant Dragon Edition you might have missed another up and coming fighting game from the makers of the Guilty Gear / Accent Core folks called BlazBlue - a PS3 network exclusive that made its official debut this year at AOU in Japan.

The game is set in the same Guilty Gear universe ten years after XX and will bring some solace to those whose panties are not dripping for SF IV, including yours truly. The game is also set to hit arcades on the Taito Type X2 board, presuming your city still has one of those.

Check out one of the videos below:

More scans and three additional videos are here!
