PSU talks Unreal Tournament 3 with Epic Games

100°
330w ago - With Unreal Tournament 3 available now in stores, PSU.com wanted to get in a quick afterthoughts interview with Jim Brown, lead level designer at Epic Games. The interview touches a few topics such as PlayStation Home, online clans, and mod support for the PS3.

PSU: Unless you go all the way back to the original Unreal title, the series has always been known for its multiplayer action. What were some of the deciding factors in adding a complete single-player experience this time around and what are you doing to make sure that it doesn't feel like offline deathmatch with bots?

Jim Brown: Hey, I had a BLAST playing Unreal 1 multiplayer, too! That's what got me into the industry...

We've found that a huge portion of our player-base never goes online with UT, and we want them to have just as great an experience as everyone else. So, to a large degree, we actually do want the Unreal Tournament 3 single player campaign to play like the online multiplayer experience. Our AI is great, and gives people the ability to have a fantastic experience regardless of their online status. And don't forget that you can play the campaign online as well, co-op with up to four people, so the line between online and offline is definitely (intentionally) blurred.

PSU: What was the main reason...

FF Versus XIII to be Mature Rated

50°
330w ago - As many of us noticed, at one point in the new Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer, the Prince impales one particular soldier with one of his many weapons. This is no new thing to Final Fantasy, but the effect you are all now thinking of is, blood and gore. Click on the screen shots below to see the exact moment in the trailer.

Minor blood has been in Final Fantasy's in the past, like on Sephiroth's face at the end of FFVII and the tiny patch of blood on Cloud's shirt after being stabbed by Sephiroth in FFVII: Advent Children. Those fall under the ESRB Teen Rating for "containing minimal blood" (Click here for the ESRB ratings guide). What is seen in the Versus trailer is in no stretch of the imagination "minimal blood", but easily fits into the ESRB Mature Rating's "contain intense violence, blood and gore" category.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the first Final Fantasy game to receive a Mature Rating if changes are not made. This may come as a surprise as the creators of Versus are also the team behind Kingdom Hearts, which has only gone as high as an E10+ Rating.

Note, this is not confirmation of a Mature Rating. Although, if the final retail version of Versus still contains this amount of blood and gore it will be.

Killzone 2 - Beta, Vehicles & Aliens?

50°
330w ago - Usually we take rumors lightly, but this one supposedly came from the Official PlayStation Magazine(UK?). A forum member at Killzone.com claims to have gotten his hands on the latest OPM- issue number 14 which contains some interesting snippets regarding Killzone 2.

• Killzone 2 also promises the inclusion of player-controlled vehicles
• Public beta test in mid `08
•"We asked deJonge to tell us a secret, "As you know, they [Helghast] are not the only inhabitants." He won't be drawn on whether those 'other' alien inhabitants are friendly or not.

This isn't from the North American OPM publication, as we've already gotten our hands on the latest issue. We want to know more and we'll let you know if there's any truth to this as soon as possible. Stay Tuned!
