European PSN Game Store Updates for February 2, 2011

100°
191w ago - SCEE's Ross McGrath of the EU PlayStation Store Team has posted up the European PSN game store updates today.

To quote: Highlights this week include the kick off of the Mega minis Sale where you can grab 20 top-shelf minis for 99p/€1.19 each; X-Men Arcade (finally!), which allows up to 6 players to kick some backside in a retro, side-scrolling beat-down as the classic X-men; and Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, the robot arm action platformer with attitude.

We've also got trials for both Beat Sketcher and Tetris if you've been waiting to try before you buy. There's also a small selection of additional Special Offers for those in search of the odd bargain.

PSP has BlazBlue Calamity Trigger, fan favourite 2D fighting action, and Lord of Arcana, the much anticipated and highly acclaimed action RPG.

But the star of the show this week has to be the Killzone 3 Multiplayer Beta opening up to all Store users - previously Plus only, now everyone has a chance to get stuck in and blow each other's brains out in an orgy of blood and violen... sorry, I got a bit sidetracked there. Long story short, it's awesome, grab it when it becomes available (here's the bad news) at 11am GMT tomorrow morning.

Also with regard to The Undergarden, despite the charming blog entry...

Video: Resistance 3 and Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One PS3 Updates

300°
191w ago - Insomniac Games Senior Community Manager James Stevenson has shared a video today featuring Resistance 3 and Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One PS3 updates.

To quote: We've spent today in London demoing our two upcoming PS3 exclusives, Resistance 3 and Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, to members of the press. This marks the first time anyone outside Insomniac has played both games. In addition, we're showing new levels and content.

We realize it's not entirely fair that only the press gets to see what's new, so we wanted to make sure we brought it here to the PlayStation.Blog as well.

Resistance 3

The Resistance 3 demo takes place in Haven, Oklahoma. Our new hero, former Sentinel Joseph Capelli, has taken up arms with his fellow Haven citizens to defend the town from Chimeran forces.

The fighters are trying to buy enough time for an evacuation of Haven, as a Chimeran terraformer is closing on the city and threatens to wipe it off the map. As the battle wages on and the terraformer nears, you see the wind begin to pick up... and then the Chimeran Brawler arrives to turn the tide of the battle.

JaicraB's Patched LV2Diag.self, Skip Blu-ray Drive for PS3 Updates

550°
191w ago - Today Spanish PlayStation 3 developer JaicraB has released a patched LV2Diag.self file which allows users to skip the Blu-ray drive 'BD FIRMWARE' and 'Blu-ray Disc Player Revoke List' steps while doing PS3 Firmware updates.

Download: JaicraB's Patched LV2Diag.self for PS3

To quote, roughly translated: I modified the Lv2diag.self with the sole purpose of being able to put an UPDATE without having to rely on the reader. It is one more step to take advantage of flaws in the PS3 controller BD.

The change is based on skip two steps in the upgrade process. "BD FIRMWARE" and "Blu-ray Disc Player Revoke list." Whose patches are:

0x3CF0 offset = 0x419E0044
offset = 0x48000034 0x3C50

This allows you to skip the two functions related to the BD-Drive. Avoid the error and let the system continue to update.

Still not solved the problem without running Hombrews reader. I hope a solution comes soon. Yet the purpose of this is not piracy, but a step to the console without reader scene.

USE

  • Activate Service Mode.
  • Copy the root of the USB Lv2diag.self entered.
  • Copy the root file update PS3UPDAT.PUP desired.
  • Turn on the PS3 with the USB port inserted in 0 (the...

Cloud PS3 Game Online Saving Coming in Firmware 3.60 Update

750°
191w ago - Today Kotaku (linked above) reports that Sony PlayStation 3 developers have revealed Cloud PS3 Game Online Saving is coming in the Firmware 3.60 update.

To quote: "Cloud storage means that, rather than just keeping your save game data on your PlayStation 3's hard drive, users will be given the option to upload their saves remotely to a server.

The advantage of this is that not only does it save the user space on their hard drive, but since it's tied to a PlayStation Network account, it can be pulled down to different consoles whenever and wherever the user desires.

First rumored all the way back in 2009, there is of course a catch: it'll only be made available to PlayStation Plus subscribers, not the great unwashed. Actually, there are two catches: Sony bundled the announcement with the clause that, because saving games to the cloud "will allow save data with the copy prohibited attribute to be copied into the online storage", developers are able to opt out and bar their games from using it should there be a concern.

Sony will call the process "Online Saving", and it'll be made available as part of the PS3's upcoming 3.60 firmware update."
