Rumor: PS3 Slim and 160gb coming soon?

550°
349w ago - T3 magazine are touting a rumor that Sony have a slim PS3 in the pipeline. Their source also reckons that a 160gb machine is coming soon.

Now personally I think this is a bit too soon, but it may just be yet another downsize of the console to save on manufacturing costs.

To quote: The guys at T3 are saying one of their inside men has heard word that Sony will be producing a slimmer, sexier PS3 heading for the shelves this Spring.

While everyone knows that Sony will eventually shrink its very obese console, such news would come as a surprise given that Sony took many more years to shrink their PSOne and PS2 (though Sony has recently successfully shrunken their Blu-ray laser to fit in laptops).

Still, Sony's biggest goal at the moment is building consoles cheaper. Maybe that means small, too. Maybe it doesn't.

Either way, T3's mock-up looks sexy as hell, and they also think a new rumored 160GB model could appear in the new slinky, skinny-as-Kate-Moss form.

349w ago - According to rumors in the PSM3 magazine, we are going to have to wait a few months to see in game XMB. The magazine also states that Sony may soon make a big announcement about Home, that will reveal achievements to rival the Xbox live system.

To quote: Dubbed 'the man who knows too much', their insider teases us with some of the latest PlayStation murmurings:

- In game XMB will be coming, however not for a few months yet.

- He tells us to expect a 'big' announcement involving Home, including information about 'trophies' or achievements "to rival the Xbox live system".

- A sequel for a popular Xbox 360 title will be 'received' soon, and that it will be making its first appearance on the PS3, he also states this isn't Lost Planet.

- He also suggests that any big 2008 announcements which Sony has for the PS3 will not come in the form of new games, however there are surprises in store, and they will focus on firmware and the PS network side.

- Finally Ubisoft are apparently about to make some big announcements. Due to occur around the Ubi Days event this May in Paris. His tips include Alive, Assassins Creed 2 and Prince of Persia.

GT Prologue Pre-orders Reach One Million

349w ago - While crashing and doing donuts mid circuit the other day in GT Prologue I had a chat with SCEE NZ's Marketing Manager Dave Hine and Paul Gunn (PR Extraordinaire) about the sales figures for GT Prologue and whether they thought the online would outsell the hard copy on Blu Disc.

They expressed their surprise at the popularity of War Hawk as down-loadable software and said that they anticipated GT to receive an even warmer welcome when it comes out later this month.

Also mentioned in the conversation was that the pre-order figures for the SCEE regions show orders already at one million. Making the PS3's first pre release Platinum title.

Call of Duty rules on PS3

349w ago - Call of Duty 4 is now officially the biggest game on PlayStation 3, according to the latest Chart Track information - and Activision plans to celebrate with a high profile consumer event and new downloadable content.

Alongside a renewed marketing push that will include online promotions with The Sun, SkySports, FHM, Kerrang and the MSN network, Activision will be inviting gamers to a special Boot Camp event where they can play the new downloadable multiplayer maps and compete for prizes.

"Call of Duty is now one of the largest video game franchises worldwide, and this has been achieved by combining a truly groundbreaking game with creative marketing campaigns that reach out to casual gamers as well as to core FPS players," said Activision marketing director David Tyler

"A whole programme of Call of Duty 4 related activities are in place for spring and summer. The Boot Camp event and refreshed marketing campaign are two examples of our ongoing commitment to this astonishing game."

Activision also recently revealed that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare had sold over seven million units worldwide, including over a million in the UK. The new downloadable multiplayer maps will be available on both Xbox 360 and PS3 early next month.

MGS4 Confirmed 50GB Blu-ray?

250°
349w ago - It was revealed last month that a Blu-ray disc wasn't big enough to hold all languages for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4. Since all previous Playstation 3 games have resorted to the more constricted 25GB Disc, it was unclear whether MGS4 was to stray from this trend.

In a Konami retailers meeting yesterday, it was exposed that the game would be produced on a 50GB Blu-ray disc.

Ryan Patyon announced on the Kojima Report Podcast that US/European copies of MGS4 would not contain a Japanese voiceover and visa versa:

Unfortunately because of disc space, we don't have the space to include other languages, other voice over files for the respective versions.

So the Japanese version's not gonna have English voiceover, and the North American and European versions won't have Japanese voiceover.

Many presumed that Kojima decided to go with a 25gb Blu-ray disc to save on costs, but it was yesterday revealed in a Konami retailers meeting that the game is the biggest of the series, and will be presented on a 50GB disc.

What's taking up so much space we can only imagine. There will be hours of high-quality surround sound, and perhaps HD movies even though previous series had cutscenes rendered in real-time. How much space is taken up by game assets is unknown,...
