Some Easter PS3 Development Updates!

400°
352w ago - We have a few PS3 development updates for the new week, including some PS3 KeyVault Project and PS3 Flash news.

To start, resident PS3 Dev subdub has been a bit busy, so he has yet to put the finishing touches on our PS3 KeyVault Server Application. In his absence, both ggparallel and mainman have picked up the slack, and are finishing up the server application. While they are finishing up the app, they are also optimizing the code so it is more versatile as it can auto-update clients, and it will also be able to handle more requests.

Below is a picture of the client application's Web interface that runs on any PS3, including retail consoles via OtherOS. It basically lets you configure the PS3's IP address, check the status of the program, the kernel, and transmitted packets.

Another resident PS3 Dev, who recently received a PS3 TEST unit, is currently awaiting some new hot air rework tools. His PS3 TEST (see HERE) then has an appointment with some solder and wire. We expect to have the flash dumped soon, barring any unforseen circumstances, and then we can analyze the differences in the IPL as well as the mystery detection bits.

Sony Says No To Portable Copy In PS3 Firmware 2.20

50°
352w ago - Despite media reports to the contrary, Sony has officially confirmed that the much-touted Portable Copy feature will NOT be included in the upcoming Firmware 2.20 update for PS3.

Not entirely unexpected, considering the original press release made no such mention of the feature.

To quote: SCEA contacted us today to let us know we were right to doubt, the Playstation 3's firmware 2.20 update will not include Portable Copy support, despite reports to the contrary.

Too bad, I'm about to go away on a trip for a few days and was thinking I might be able to bring some movies with me. Of course, I'm also still confused about whether all Blu-ray movies will be copyable or if it will be only for movies that have an extra PSP file included on the disc.

Warhawk v1.4 Patch In Development; Features New Game Modes

50°
352w ago - The version 1.3 patch for PlayStation Network title Warhawk, which is set to bring a number of custom aircraft paint schemes and HOME integration to the table, isn't out just yet – but that isn't stopping Dylan Jobe and crew from dropping details on the next major update for Warhawk.

To quote from the blog comment linked above: So while I can't say too much, I can say that the team is hard at work on developing some new game modes.

We have a lot of new designs at various phases of development so I can't say which ones will make the cut for the v 1.4 patch just yet... but rest assured that the next patch *will* have new modes, and of course, they will be free.

Don't forget that the version 1.3 update is scheduled to hit later next week. :P

PS3 version of Rainbow Six Vegas 2 full of bugs

50°
352w ago - Uh oh, it would seem as if from the masses of posts at the Official Ubi boards that the PS3 version of Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is indeed full of a range of bugs.

Some of the problems include crashing PS3's, difficulity in setting-up games and even if getting online is successful, then the game is very laggy and unplayable. Ubisoft has issued a response by saying they are aware of the reported issues, and any further issues should be posted in the feedback thread (linked above).

To quote: Ubi, PS3 version online verses has numerous problems:

- 90% of games result in "Unable to establish a connnection to this game"
- If your lucky and get in, the game is either very laggy (people jumping all over the place, hit recognition not registering etc) or your immediatley disconnected and booted back to the main menu with a message "The game is no longer avialable"
- The annoying repeating helicopter sound has returned with a vengeance in this versions.
- So far in the last 24hrs its crashed my PS3 8 times ... WTF is going on?
