PS3 Dualshock 3 controller Review

550°
356w ago - The wait is over: rumble is back on the PlayStation 3!

These new wireless controllers use a hybrid design, combining the motion sensor of the Sixaxis controller with the rumbling abilities of its predecessor, the PlayStation 2's DualShock 2.

Overall, the new DualShock 3 is a delight. It's slightly heavier than the Sixaxis, with a more sturdy, solid feel. The handgrips no longer flex when you squeeze them, and the black plastic is completely opaque (the Sixaxis used cheaper, transparent plastic).

So far, we see only two small gripes. For starters, the DualShock 3 does not appear to ship with a mini-USB cable; none was included in the retail box we received. Mini-USB cables are dirt-cheap these days, so that shouldn't present a big problem.

Secondly, the DualShock 3 sacrifices a bit of its "oomph" in the name of better battery life (and possibly not interfering with the integrated motion sensor). The DualShock 3 still pumps out a pleasing pulse sensation, but it does feel slightly weaker than the DualShock 2.

Aside from those nitpicks, the DualShock 3 is the controller Sony fans have longed for ever since the PlayStation 3 launched with its neutered Sixaxis. It does cost a bit more money -- $54.99 compared to the Sixaxis's $49.99.

But you might not have...

Metal Gear Solid 5 will not be made by Hideo Kojima

550°
356w ago - Konami's upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the PlayStation 3 (due June 12) is the latest stealth game in a series that has been going strong for the last 20 years.

In an interview with Hideo Kojima, creator of the series, he was asked if this was the last game in the series and even if he may not be making another one himself, he said he'd produce more spin-off PSP handheld games and hinted that a Metal Gear Solid 5 sequel might be a possibility without him.

Question: Obviously, the first question that's on everyone's mind is: Why exactly did you feel this was the right time to end the Metal Gear Solid series?

Hideo Kojima answers: I was supposed to end this in MGS2, you know, originally (laughs). And then I created MGS3, and I said, 'Okay, this is the final one. It's over.' But people said, 'No... there's still not enough answers (in that game)!' As a game design, the story was almost complete in MGS1, 2 and 3, or so I initially thought.

But of course, there were some questions that weren't answered, especially with some things after MGS2. I didn't decide that this was the timing - there were a lot of voices saying, 'We want the answer to all of the questions!' That's why as a game, and as a saga, MGS4 is the complete...

Nyko ships PS3 Rock Band/GH III compatible guitar

50°
356w ago - Joystiq reports Nyko is now shipping to retailers its Rock Band/Guitar Hero III compatible Front Man wireless guitar for PS3.

The third party controller is $60, which is the same price some retailers charge for first party controllers.

The Front Man guitar works up to 25 ft and allegedly gets 80 hours of play time, it also uses a "stomp box" to switch between the two rival rhythm games. It's great that the guitar is compatible with both games unlike the first party controllers, but isn't the whole point of a third party peripheral to be much less expensive than first party?

Oh well, we had no complaints about the controller when we got some hands-on time with it at GDC. The Front Man seems like an alternative for those who need another ax quick and a first party controller isn't at the store .
