Jaffe: PS3 Twisted Metal Next Project

50°
337w ago - When David Jaffe released Twisted Metal Head On: Extra Twisted Edition he promised that there was a hidden message in the game that would reveal the next project for Jaffe's Eat Sleep Play development studio.

Well it may have been "hidden really, really, really well" but you know how hardcore fans can be. A group over at Gamefaq managed to decipher the message in record time, discovering that it reads: METAL IS COMING ON PSTHREE.

I contacted Jaffe, who's hanging at DICE this week, to see if the gamers were on the money and he confirmed they were, adding his chagrin at how fast the code was discovered and cracked. Unfortunately, he hit me with a big fat no comment when I asked him if the upcoming PS3 version of Metal was going to be hitting the console via a disc or as a downloadable.

"As for how it gets distributed, no comment "

A little something from the inside

338w ago - Update: Fully lighted, swap of retail PS3 games video:

Here are some things I have so thoroughly withheld.

First off is this video of the SuperSwapMethod in action. (The demonstrated application I am not at liberty to release for the practicality of using it further in the future, and the safety of others.)

This application allows swaps of original PS3 games for other original PS3 of any firmware, of any style, and gave me extensive information on they system's acceptability of burned mediums.

First of all, the system on disk insert takes the param.sfo and copies it to RAM. On execute, RAM is location is cleared, but you may still be able to view garbage data instead. Param.sfo determines if the game is to boot or not.

So if not there (in memory), the game will not launch. As for launching executable files (self, elf, bin, sce) from this area, it can't be done. I have tried several files, and several variations of those files and have concluded that it can't be done without a hardware mod to the BD-ROM or a complete software modification of the sprx's.

EA Says You’ll Experience Burnout Paradise DLC - Even if You Don’t Buy it

50°
338w ago - Burnout Paradise fans gaming with an Xbox 360 Core or Arcade system have found themselves pulling on the short end of the stick this week when it comes to online multiplayer.

While Multiplayer was researching how online retailers handled informing consumers about the hard drive requirement, Criterion Games issued a response to address gamer chatter. In doing so, we noticed they seemed to reveal a new approach to distributing downloadable content. We were right.

Publisher Electronic Arts confirmed to Multiplayer today that "Burnout Paradise"'s additional content allows gamers who choose to opt out of engaging with new content to still see the new content in-game while playing online. Additionally, EA says the content will be a combination of pay-to-play and free.

On Monday, Criterion Games released a statement that explained technical reasons "Burnout Paradise" required the hard drive online. After explaining issues related to data streaming without the add-on, the studio said this:

"Crucially we also didn't want to split the playing community between those that have updated data and those that don't. We saw this as vital in maintaining simplicity to all online users; different players having different content packages wouldn't be able to play online with each other."

Interstellar Marines still alive! New image inside

50°
338w ago - Developed by Zero Point Software, an independent studio out of Copenhagen, Interstellar Marines is a sci-fi hybrid that combines the cooperative gameplay and military realism of the tactical shooter with the character development and narrative depth of RPG's.

According to Zero Point, the first playable demo will available at GDC and new trailers will be shown highlighting the game's gameplay and features. Below is an updated early look at what we'll see at GDC.

"Interstellar Marines has come a long way since we released our proof-of-concept trailer," said Kim Haar Jørgensen, Game Director at Zero Point. "We've invested a lot of resources in getting the GDC demo right, and it goes a long way to show how Interstellar Marines will push the FPS genre forward in terms of player immersion and campaign cooperative gameplay."

For those of you who want more details on the game you can read our preview here. Basically it's a new FPS that focuses on realism and non-linear gameplay.

The game looks to set new standards for player immersion through character awareness, environmental realism, and a brand new in-game communication technology.

PSU will be attending GDC this year, so we'll be sure to keep you updated with all the latest on this new AAA first person shooter.
