Gamers Salivate at PS3 2008 Developments

50°
337w ago - A little earlier this month, the rumors were flying about the impending discontinuance of the 80GB PS3. There is no doubt that in the gaming stratosphere, absolutely anything about the PS3 will spark debate and discussion.

Playstation.blog admits that it spends a great deal of time championing the merits of the PlayStation 3 as the very best, powerful, high-value video gaming console available. And this coming March will be no different, as the EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly) magazine cover story will feature a story outlining what can be expected in 2008. Fan commentary is literally salivating at the very thought of the arrival of this issue, which promises to provide detail about what is in store for avid users.

Predictions from the masses for 2008 include: Sony will be dominant, Bluray will win the most recognition, production costs will lower on PS3, the home line up of games will see strong sales overseas in Europe and Japan, and there will be more compelling PSN games on the horizon.
Of course, the cover of EGM seems to indicate that 2007 was less than a stellar year for the PS3. Many gamers beg to differ, citing that as many as 15 games were purchased. Games such as Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Warhawk, UT3, and CoD4, were dubbed "amazing."

Diehard PS fans also include those who...

True power of PlayStation 3 to be revealed in 2008

50°
337w ago - 2008 will be a boom time for the PlayStation 3, say leading developers.

2007 saw the Xbox 360 stealing the software limelight through more than a few critically acclaimed console exclusives, while the Nintendo Wii's ongoing popularity saw it surpassing all of its market rivals in unit sales. But what of the PlayStation 3?

2007 for the PS3 saw a parade of somewhat disappointing software exclusives, repeated delays to eagerly anticipated flagship titles, and a blizzard of confusion and controversy surrounding price reductions and the culling of lower GB hardware models. Along the way it also managed to benefit from the value of its steadily expanding PlayStation Store and the likes of Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

That being said, 2007 certainly wasn't the year that Sony and its faithful PlayStation fans were hoping for. Well, saddle up believers, because the videogame development community is indicating that 2008 will be the year that the true power behind the PlayStation 3 comes to the fore. Excited? You should be.

More pointedly, several prominent industry figures have recently been quoted in a Games Radar report as claiming that after a year of the PS3's life cycle videogame developers are finally growing more accustomed...

Hot Shots Golf requires a 20 minute 5GB install to PS3 hard drive

337w ago - It looks as if Devil May Cry 4 has a fellow friend in Hot Shots Golf as it too requires a lengthy 5GB install to the PS3's hard drive.

To quote: We don't know if this'll be in the final retail version of the game, but we were annoyed to see that Hot Shots Golf, just like Devil May Cry 4, features a required installation at game launch.

In fact, with about 5GB of data being installed onto the PS3 drive, it's just as lengthy as Capcom's action game. We were surprised by this -- we didn't have our sandwiches ready for the long-haul.

Sony's long term plan, hit or miss??

100°
337w ago - Sony is planning to keep the PS3 for around 10 years just like they did with the PS2, they built it with the lechnology to last, so they say. However my worry is that, because Microsoft aren't in it for the long term this could cause problems for the SONY strategy.

The 360 was brought out earlier and was built with "in between gen' " tech. I fear that microsoft will only keep the 360 around for a few years before bringing out another console. I recon somewhere around 2010 we may see the 720 or whatever else they come up with but, but this new unit may be, and probably will be, superior to its counterpart, the PS3.

Now this puts SONY in a very difficult situation because there initial intention after the poor start to the PS3 was that they weren't going to let MS pull out another early release, so either SONY plays the PS4 or hopes that the developments on the PS3 can match up to or better this new rival. Which I think it may struggle to do.

If SONY did decide to bring out the PS4 prematurely they will lose loads on the PS3, or they keep the PS3 and hope it can keep up with the 720.

The advantage they have is that most of the gaming market still currnetly owns a PS2, now by the time these people want to upgrade to a next gen console, in a few years time, the PS3 would have improved...
