Postcards from Leipzig: Killzone 2 Public BETA is coming soon

50°
318w ago - Eric Boltjes, the Senior Online Gameplay Designer for Killzone 2, has said that the Public BETA for the game is coming soon. Boltjes also said that they are listening to feedback from people who are testing out the online version of the game at Leipzig.

"We are still at a point in the project where we can change and tweak specific aspects of the game so getting this kind of feedback from our audience (even though they might be journalists ) is a tremendous help to getting this project done and out the door." said Boltjes.

Via PS Blog - Eric Boltjes, the senior online gameplay designer for Killzone 2:

Today was the first time ever that we showed the online version of the game, hands-on, to anyone outside of the SCEE family and I have to admit, it was quite nerve-wracking. We've worked on this online portion for over two years and putting your baby out there is not an easy thing. I am very happy to say though that today could not have gone better and we got some really good responses from all of the journalists we showed the game to.

There is something almost magic about seeing people playing the online game for the first time and more importantly, seeing them really get into it! Some of the journalists were so into the game that they almost forgot to ask questions for...

PAIN Trophies coming in September!

50°
319w ago - Posted by Travis Williams (Sr. Producer, SCEA) today:

Hello everyone it's Travis Williams, PAIN Producer, again and I wanted to take some time to tell you about the new PlayStation Network Trophies being added to PAIN Downtown.

The last trophy I ever "earned" was in ROTC. That was way back in High School (tragic I know). So, I have been really excited to see PlayStation 3 trophies make their way into games both old and new. It's a new way to show your "ePump-a-tude". PAIN already features internal trophies that make the modes challenging.

That's why it's so awesome to get to make a whole new set of trophies. Here's a list of some of the Trophies you will see next month. If the names seem sophomoric or juvenile to you, then you clearly haven't been playing PAIN enough. That's kinda "How We Do."

To answer some questions before they come up...

Q: When will Trophies be available for PAIN?
A: When the Amusement Park ships on 9-4-2008 we will update PAIN to include trophies.

Q: When does Amusement Park ship?
A: Duh

Q: Are Trophies retroactive?
A: Most of the trophy requirements are new so we haven't tracked your progress until now. Some work you will get credit for.

Q: Are you CRAZY?!

Rumor: LittleBigPlanet PS3 Exclusivity in doubt, coming to PC too?

200°
320w ago - A shop worker has sent around the following image and explains he got the following display boxes in at work for Little Big Planet on the PC which is pretty strange as it was thought to be a guranteed PS3 exclusive and probably still is.

This is most likely just an error or perhaps some clever image editing....

To quote: Little Big Planet on the PC? Bwah? Reader Jacob writes: "Got these display boxes in at work for Little Big Planet on the PC, How Very Queer!!!"

Pretty sure this is nothing more than a screw-up (not on Jacob's part, mind you!) and rather certain we'll only be seeing it on the PS3, but yeah, LBP on the PC would be pretty neat. That is, if you own a PC and are excited about LittleBigPlanet. If not, then oh well.

Rumor: Left 4 Dead not coming to PS3 after all?

100°
320w ago - A rumor published in the latest Official PlayStation Magazine stating that zombie-laden shooter Left 4 Dead is being ported to the PS3 has been brutally beheaded by Valve's Doug Lombardi today.

When cornered by IGN, Lombardi stated:

"There is no PS3 version of Left 4 Dead currently in production."

Of course, there may still be a chance that development of a PS3 port could begin sometime in the future, but for now the hordes of Infected only plan to bring apocalyptic ruin to PCs and Xbox 360s across the globe.

Be sure to keep an eye out for the game when it launches this November, and whatever you do, don't even think of running off to go on some crazy self-absorbed solo crusade against the legions of undead - you will die a horrible and grizzly death!
