To quote: PS3 JailBreak is awesome, especially because it works on my phone decided to tinker with some of the PS3?s files, xRegistry.sys in particular because it holds important things like debug mode switches and bluray/dvd region, along with your PSN login details (unencrypted!) and other little tidbits.

Video: PSP Games on PS3 by Russian Hacker GamerSuper

1000°
202w ago - Today garyopa at PSX-Scene has reported that Russian hacker GamerSuper has began a project for playing PSP games on Sony's PS3 entertainment system and shared a PoC video!

Below is the proof-of-concept video, and for those curious GamerSuper's own Web site is located [Register or Login to view links].

To quote from the video's caption: "Launching PSP game on PS3 - World's First Test

Here's a first video of launching PSP game on the PS3. It wasn't easy at all, I worked about a week without any breaks, a SDK which has recently leaked very helped me. I don't know why there was no in-game sound, seems I made some mistake when building a game last time.

There were some problems in controls (I mean some buttons were messed up, e.g. START became [], select didn't work at all), but I'm gonna fix it."

Open PStore Project, PSGroove on ALL PS3 Firmware Versions

700°
203w ago - Today DemonHades has initiated an Open PStore Project, which aims to deliver PS3 homebrew content directly to your PlayStation 3 console and RichDevX has confirmed that PSGroove may soon be coming for ALL PS3 firmware versions under 3.42, instead of only working on version 3.41.

To quote from DemonHades on Open PStore, roughly translated:

"From TeamHades you are preparing a new, Open PStore, a homebrew that will allow you to download content (legal) directly to your PS3, but if you want or you can connect your PS3 Internet do not worry there is another version for come down from your PC.

Open PStore PS3 Version

This menu consists of a homebrew which interact with a SQL remote to list and display the content. Needs will be logged in and registered for access, since both can make the PS3, if you lose your password you can also recover but in this case you must do so from the PC.

Also must cover in which we suggest content.

Phases

HTTP MySql: mysql behaves the library (or something similar) to PS3 and tested together with the ps3 HTTP library - IN PROCESS (Carrying the library)

Content Management: the whole system is created to manage and display the contents interacting with SQL - ON HOLD...

SKFU on PS3 Registry Research and PS3 USB Custom Firmware

1200°
203w ago - Earlier today we reported on a preliminary PS3 flash and registry entry analysis from DemonHades and RichDevX, and now SKFU (linked above) has shared his input thus far.

To quote: Since PS3News released their PS3 FTP application I did some research on the PS3's registry.

The registry and it's backup are stored on dev_flash2 as xRegistry.sys.

The header

BC AD AD BC 00 00 00 90 00 00 00 02 BC AD AD BC

The entries

Every entry has a fronttag which is 5 bytes long. I'll describe:

56 41 00 11 01

This is an example value:

/setting/parental

Behind the value theres a 1 byte close mark:

00

The 5 bytes

The first 4 bytes are a unique but random number. Every value has it to be identified and found by the system as there is no special pattern. An sprx(?) finds every value by this 4 bytes.

56 41 00 11

The 5th byte can be 00, 01 or 02. 00 tagged values are actually activated/used by the VSH, 01 ones not....

PS3 FTP Server Homebrew Application is Released!

1350°
203w ago - With the start of the real PS3 Scene, people sharing what they have - I decided to code up this little, horribly buggy PS3 FTP server homebrew app.

Download: PS3 FTP Server Homebrew Application / [Register or Login to view links] (Mirror)

It is an FTP Server for the PS3, with it, on a retail with your choice of "hack" to enable unsigned code it allows:

• Full Read/Write access to all of "dev_hdd0" (including save areas, games, VM etc)
• Full Read/Write access to "dev_flash2" and "dev_flash3"
• Full Read/Write access to connected usb devices
• Full Read access to "dev_flash"
• Full Read access to "dev_bdvd"

To use:

Connect with your choice of FTP client - Prefered is the old "ftp" from the command line, however Filezilla seems to work, allowing only one connection, and disabling PASV support.

Furthermore, the Server does not support some commands (like rename, of all things!) so make sure what you do counts!

Use the IP shown on the screen - make sure to have your net connection up and running before hand (wired is so much faster)

Connect to that IP, port 21, use...
