PS3 LV2 Kernel Peek / Poke Patched, Backup Managers and CFW!

1150°
197w ago - Update: This method ended up failing because the LV2 address range is protected by Sony on PS3 with Firmware v3.55, so Netkas and flukes1 are now working on a patch for LV1 instead.

Today Netkas and flukes1 have successfully managed to patch the PS3 lv2_kernel in v3.55 Firmware to allow peek and poke syscalls, meaning PlayStation 3 backup managers and Custom Firmware (CFW) will also be able to make use of them!

From the ReadMe file:Patch to add peek and poke syscalls to PS3 firmware v3.55 by flukes1 and netkas (irc.efnet.net #ps3test)

To create the patched PS3UPDAT.PUP:

1. Use bspatch to apply PS3UPDAT.PUP.bsdiff to Sony's official 3.55 PUP, which is available from their website.
2. Run this from command line: "bspatch PS3UPDAT.PUP PS3UPDAT-NEW.PUP PS3UPDAT.PUP.bsdiff"
2. Ensure that the md5sum of the...

To quote from PSGroove: He has managed to run Castlevania: Lords of Shadow from his internal hard drive, while on Geohot's 3.55 Custom Firmware. He achieved this by patching the game's main executable file (EBOOT.BIN) and making the PS3 think it's a PSN game.

PS3 CFW Evilnat BETA Arrives and BackUp Loader WIP Detailed

1050°
198w ago - Spanish PlayStation 3 developer nathan_r32_69 has posted a Beta release of PS3 CFW Evilnat today along with details on their BackUp Loader WIP.

To quote, roughly translated via Google:

CFW Evilnat BETA

Good fellow, you know that I decided to make a CFW and investigate, since the programming along with the PS3 is a pretty fun hobby.

"This software is shared with no warranty. Neither I, nor members of PS3SOS liable for any damages to your console. Use with caution."

I have access to the archives of the kernel of the PUP, as I can I start to create the Backup Loader.

Took several days creating this CFW as many already know, only with the disadvantage that do not have Kakarot tool as it gives me errors everywhere, so I'm doing everything manually, and it takes more logically.

I know many will think that I'm doing a CFW own seeing what's online and who are very advanced, I know I could be stupid, but the reason is very easy, if not the major draw, if I get SI Exposing LO.

Comment I did not know for sure if it would get, but I always try. For now its beginnings are already made, the CFW 3.41-Evilnat

The firmware that you create and modify debug options enabled take, I have all minimum. At...

Rebug 3.41E Beta v1.0.1 - PS3 Retail to Debug Custom Firmware

1350°
198w ago - Following in the same direction as KaKaRoToKS PS3 Custom Firmware now utilizing PlayStation 3 PUP files, today Cyberskunk has updated PS3 Rebug Retail to Debug Firmware to 3.41E Beta v1.0.1.

From the official Rebug Site, to quote:

Rebug 3.41 1.0.1 Beta signed PUP is here..

INSTALL through XMB no jailbreak needed

UNINSTALL through XMB with Retail 3.41 update file

KNOWN BUG: When exiting from a BD/DVD or GAME when NOT in JB mode the PS3 will restart..

This only occurs when the PS3 is NOT jailbroken and NO data is lost when it happens.. I am trying to fix the issue now but thought that since it is a beta people that haven’t can at least preview Rebug and if the bug is too annoying simply update back to retail without losing any saves, game data, etc..

Enjoy.. Cyberskunk

NOTE: It is recommended that users of the previous Rebug pack install DO NOT update with this as it will install the the annoying exit bug mentioned above.. If you have installed it and would like to return back to the pack install you will have to run the Retail 3.41 update first.. No data will be lost doing this..
