Blade Kitten for PS3: Artificial Intelligence, Physics in a 2D World

230w ago - Today Krome Studios Senior Programmer Chris Fowler has shared an update on Blade Kitten for PS3, detailing artificial intelligence and physics in a 2D world, as follows:

Working on the PlayStation 3 has been wonderful. As this was my first project on the PS3, I was apprehensive at first about the new technology and how to use it as best we could. But now, I can honestly say I am a fan of the PS3.

Early in development, [Register or Login to view links] was both a 3D and a 2D game and you could switch between them instantly – you'd run through a section then it would transition to 2D. It didn't take us long to fall in love with the 2D version, so we focused all our efforts on making the 2D the fun game it is today.

From the start of our project, our goal as programmers was to give the designers all the power they needed to create the game that they wanted. Ideally, a level designer controls the player's progression and experience in each area of the game (enemy placement, special events, collectables, and so on). So rather than implement a boss character's attack moves myself, I would give the designers scripting tools to implement the boss themselves.

This proved to be one of the best decisions we made. For example, the level where Kit is running...

Video: Scott Pilgrim vs The World New Comic-Con PSN Trailer

231w ago - Sony's Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has posted up a new video today on the PSN exclusive title Scott Pilgrim vs The World for Comic-Con 2010.

To quote: I really enjoyed Scott Pilgrim vs The World when I played it at E3, despite having zero knowledge of the source material.

Now that I've read the first 5 [Register or Login to view links] in record time (and will be picking up the 6th and final one today), I'm in full on "DO WANT" mode.

Fortunately, we'll be featuring the latest build of the game at our Comic-Con event on Thursday (invites just went out for that, btw - check your email). And Scott Pilgrim vs The World's (PSN-exclusive) debut isn't that far off, either - August 10th.

In the meantime, and just in time for Comic-Con, take a look at the latest trailer.

We'll have more on Scott Pilgrim vs The World shortly after Comic-Con.

Video: Scott Pilgrim vs The World for PS3 on PSN from E3 2010

232w ago - Sony's Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein posted up some video footage from E3 2010 today of Scott Pilgrim vs The World for PS3, which hits PSN exclusively on August 10, 2010.

To quote: Without question, [Register or Login to view links] is the most popular game at E3 that I had barely heard of.

I didn't know much of the Edgar Wright-directed, Michael Cera-starring movie hitting later this summer. I had never read any of the comics by [Register or Login to view links] (though I'm rectifying that now).

All I know is, I played a game that took me back to my gaming childhood: 8-bit beat'em ups with brightly colored sprites, old-school music, and couch co-op.

The key thing to note: Scott Pilgrim vs The World is debuting exclusively on PlayStation Network, and that you'll be playing it in just about a month: August 10th.

You'll be seeing a lot more about Scott Pilgrim vs The World here on the PlayStation.Blog in the coming weeks, including updates from [Register or Login to view links] and a post directly from [Register or Login to view links], the famed chiptune band who behind the game's sountrack.
