231w ago - Valve isn't quite as against the idea of developing games for the PS3 as previously thought.
Speaking to Valve's Doug Lombardi at the Left 4 Dead 2 event in London today, JoyStiq (linked above) discovered that the company is still "up on the idea" of developing for the PS3 - it's just waiting until it has hired some decent PS3 coders.
To quote: "If you look at The Orange Box - PC: 96 on Metacritic, 360: 96 on Metacritic, PS3 like... 84 or something. That's not even close to where we are right now with the 360 and PC and the reason is people."
Lombardi went on to say that "we have to get people under our roof who are dedicated, talented PS3 guys and then all bets are off. We can take the same sort of strides and get the quality out of the box and offer the same support post-launch on that platform, as well." Sounds like Valve-developed PS3 games are more a case of "when" than "if," nowadays.
When asked whether Valve is actively seeking to hire PS3 developers, he noted that "Valve is always looking to hire people. So yeah, definitely."
238w ago - Tecmo's Team Ninja is one crew that has weathered a few storms over the years. There was the resignation of Tomonobu Itagaki, the subsequent lawsuit, and the Koei Tecmo merger among others.
The team may have lost one of its aces, but it's good to see that they are still walking the path of the ninja. Now under the leadership of Yosuke Hayashi, the team is now going to work on new Ninja Gaiden titles.
Despite having Itagaki's ghost affecting outlook for the game, Hayashi believes that only the leadership has changed with the team, and that future releases would still hold true to the "Team Ninja DNA."
One of the future releases would be Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, carrying huge upgrades from its predecessors and features that we've come to expect from the current generation, such as multiplayer co-op and online features.
Speaking of this console generation, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 currently stands as a PS3-exclusive.
"I am sorry for our Xbox 360 fans, but this one will be PS3 only," Hayashi said. "As much as I would like to take that as sort of a compliment, saying that we should share the wealth with other consoles, I think it's more or less too old by the time Sigma 2 hits the market and enough people have played it already on the Xbox 360."
239w ago - Guerrilla Games Producer Sebastian Downie has announced news of a Killzone 2: Battle the PS3 Dev Team competition tomorrow, as follows:
Many of you have been asking when we would have a 'Snipe the dev' event again like we had with Killzone 1 and Killzone: Liberation, and let me tell you that time is NOW!
Well, tomorrow anyway. Close enough. At 10:00AM Pacific on Tuesday, May 5 we are holding a "Guerrilla Warfare" event on the US servers to celebrate the release of our first DLC Pack: "Steel & Titanium," and to generally kick some ass.
I have assembled the most battle-hardened and skillful developers at Guerrilla Games to go onto the servers and take you through our two newest maps: "Wasteland Bullet" and "Vekta Cruiser," now available on the Playstation Store.
The developers at Guerrilla Games will be hosting some "Official games," which some of you will be able to join with passwords provided by the staff here at PlayStation.Blog. If you join those games, we'll take you on a tour of the new levels, talk about their development and generally hang out.
To receive the password and find out the room names, you'll have to follow the PlayStation.Blog Twitter account: twitter.com/sonyplaystation....
