Video: PlayStation Move Demo Disc Exploit via PS3 JailBreak

700°
196w ago - Today HKKory has shared a video of what he calls a PlayStation Move demo disc exploit via PS3 JailBreak, however, as PSGroove points out the console is already JailBroken so this isn't really an exploit and won't likely lead to anything.

To quote: "The PS3 homebrew news has seemed to slow down, a lot. So I thought I would start making some news. I noticed the demo disc that came with my move, runs off the XMB, and installs demos.

I pondered if the same method could be used for homebrew, or whatever. I backed it up with my manager, and looked in the files. I realized the installs were DATA000.PKG so I renamed a emulator to that, copied it over to move folder, and installed it.

Now I'm not a coder, so I would like to turn this news over to anyone that could make some use of it to further our efforts. But please, remember to credit me, if you work further upon this discovery.

Here are the details:

• Back up Move Demo Disc (10GB)
• Select Install Disc
• Make sure a Disc is in the Drive
• Open Your File Manager
• Open Dev0HD
• Go to folder with rips
• Navigate to BCUS-98263
• PS3_EXTRA
• D001 - D012 have the pkg files.
• Rename desired .pkg to DATA000.PKG (USE CAPITALS ON THE .PKG)

PS3 Break Team and Their PS3 JailBreak Product Comparison

550°
196w ago - During the past few months the PS3 Break team has released three different Break products, I received several samples from Digitopz.com, including PS3 Break, P3HUB and USB Break, thanks for their support!

PS3 Break Team and Their PS3 JailBreak Product Comparison:

I will talk about them one by one in this post, hope this can help you to choose a Break item in case you have the plan to buy one.

PS3 Break

PS3 Break V1.0:

It is the first product from PS3 Break team. It came out in the same time when JailBreak team released their item, or we can say it is a clone of BailBreak. As soon as the first PS3 hacked news released and due to the cheap price of V1.0 compared to JailBreak, we can imagine that lots of guys bought PS3 Break V1.0 in the early days. Unfortunately, many of them didn't get the update one because of the chip problem.

There are two different types of V1.0 released in the market, one is short version and the other is long. I am glad to know that what i got was the short upgradeable one. People who received this style can update as always, but long version can not update because the update button is just no use in the long version.

Guide: How to Place PS3 Apps into Different XMB Categories

650°
197w ago - Today NZHawk has shared on his blog (linked above) what he calls a little find, specifically how to place PS3 apps into different PlayStation 3 XMB categories.

To quote: "Well I was talking to DarkHacker about param.sfo files and that. He asked me to try changing the CATAGORY string to 'HM' and see what it did.

It made the package install under the PlayStation Network catagory on the XMB. DarkHacker and I then worked out the rest of the catagories that its possible to install and run hombrew applications to the XMB, and found them all except Users, Settings and Friends (which all seem to be filled with the XML files in the VSH flash folder).

String / Category
HM / Playstation Network
CB / Network
HG / Game
AV / Video
AM / Music
AP / Photo
AT / TV

I thought this was quite interesting, and would be great if we could add a Hombrew catagory to the xmb and make all hombrew apps install under it to make some hombrew standard, much like the wii has. (Also has anyone though about making a database of hombrew Title IDs to keep track?)

Oh, and its possible to change this location after install via application settings."

Thanks to PSGroove for the news tip and to Jes03 for posting this a...

PS3 Doom Homebrew Port is Now Available for JailBreak Users

700°
197w ago - Today xttl has released a PS3 Doom homebrew port v0.01 with source code for JailBreak users, followed by v0.02 which also includes sound support and some more updates below.

Download: PS3 Doom Homebrew Port v0.01 with Source Code / PS3 Doom Homebrew Port v0.02 with Source Code / PS3 Doom Homebrew Port v0.03 with Source Code / PS3 Doom Homebrew Port v0.04 with Source Code / PS3 Doom Homebrew Port v0.05

To quote: v3 is now out. Sound effects should work pretty much perfectly now, there's a simple launcher that will allow you to select an IWAD if you have multiple ones available (no PWADs yet, and the launcher menu only lists the first 10 IWADs it finds which can happen if you have duplicates of them on different storage devices) and in case an error happens after graphics have been initalized, you'll see the error message on screen. (not just via ethernet debugging if enabled).

I also switched the license to GPLv2 now...

PS3 LV1 Syscalls Dumped by KaKaroToKS, Payload Incoming

550°
197w ago - Update: KaKaroToKS has now released the PL3 LV1 Hypercall Tracer Payload which can be used by developers to trace PS3 syscalls and hypercalls.

Today Dertyp at PSX-Scene (linked above) reports that [Register or Login to view links] has dumped the PS3 LV1 syscalls, and plans to update his payload soon to allow other developers to dump the calls.

To quote: For Those Of You Who Are Asking What This Is:

level-1 syscalls are used to call hypervisor functions. On a PS3 the hypervisor is known as as "lv1? (level1) since it is the lowest level that runs directly on top of the hardware. The operating system is executed on top of this and is known as "lv2? (level2).

The two common operating systems are GameOS which PS3 games run on, and OtherOS which is usually used to run linux. Since both OSes run on top of the same lv1 hypervisor, they use the same set of hypercalls which has been partially documented here.

KaKaRoToKS Recent Tweets:

FINALLY able to dump (over eth) all lv1 calls!! Will push it soon!

To everyone misunderstanding: no lv1 access, all I did was be able to dump the "call trace" of lv1 hypercalls. same as payload_dump_syscalls
