Kmeaw 3.55 PS3 Custom Firmware (CFW) to Add Linux Dual Boot

700°
183w ago - Keeping in line with the latest PS3 Linux Dual-Booting work from PlayStation 3 developer Graf Chokolo, today Kmeaw has stated the following to Dukio on his upcoming 3.55 PS3 Custom Firmware update, to quote:

"We haven't heard from Kmeaw for quite some time, so I managed to get a hold of him and it seems he might bring us another interesting release that should comes in the form of CFW. No, it's not 3.60 CFW, if you still don't get it.

I was thinking of a CFW that has bootOS integrated so it gets executed when you power on your PS3 (and switches back to GameOS on user's request via menu or ssh). It's not hard to make it. But recently I read graf's announcment that he is going to accomplish the same task. So I don't know, if such CFW from me would get any demand.

Also I got bootos-installer and lv2patcher patches from an anonymous hacker who have added 3.15/3.41 support. I'm going to merge them into my code and release the next version.

If you have any ideas about what would you like to have, please tell me."

To quote: Well, after much playing with the PS3 and "accompany" Hermes Manager support in 3.55 I have finally decided to do my own project which will gradually diverged from the original.

It has taken many months to reach this release with syscall8 of hermes and the new hook so I hope everyone enjoyed it and the manager to behave as stable as in our tests.

Note to some developers with close source projects that does not respect the GPL:

If you benefit from this code, then you SHOULD contribute back. And it is very clear how I expect you to contribute back - by providing full access to the COMPLETE system which is using my code.

At the core of GPL, the intention is that someone else should be able to make modifications to such a system and build other things from...

183w ago - This weekend Emerson35 shared a video and release on his blog of ES35's Customize v0.1 for PlayStation 3 Custom Firmware, which allows users to customize PS3 RCO files.

Download: [Register or Login to view links] / [Register or Login to view links]

From his page: BACKGROUND

RCOs are a bunch of xml files encrypted together, you can mod these with [Register or Login to view links] and make custom strings on your xmb.

RAFs are Video files. the only one that is a raf is coldboot.raf, which is the boot logo. Can be made with ColdBoot Maker. Tutorial Here.

AC3s are of course audio files, which is the boot sound.

I might make a tutorial on modding RCOs for noobs if i receive some positive feedback.

CUSTOMIZE

To Customize

1. put flash drive into computer and make the folder structure of customize/modz(example F:/customize/modz)
2. put all your customized files in that folder.
3. make sure all the names of the files are the same as the orginal(case sesitive)

Graf_Chokolo Working on PS3 3.55 HV CFW with Dual Boot Linux

800°
184w ago - Recently Graf_Chokolo revealed that he is working on a PS3 3.55 HV CFW, which will have dual boot Linux built in.

To quote from Dukio: I plan to implement dual boot feature in HV, just like i did on my PS3 3.41, and you can boot with it either gameos or linux or some other system like freebsd. You won’t need any bootos on gameos for that. I will also patch HV and enable more features

I will do it on PS3 slim, first i will resize HDD and add a partition for Linux there

Expect more features coming in as the HV patching continues. Oh, and he is working on a 3.55 FW only at the moment, although on the newer firmware versions is possible according to graf.

Now for 3.55, on other version offsets are different so the code is the same but offsets to patch are different.

When ask about the progress of his lawsuit and if he requires more legal funds, graf_chokolo had to say this:

It's very slow, for now it’s enough i think, thanks.

I have no huge news yet regarding lawsuit but soon I think I will have.
