Sony: No plans for PS2 Downloadable Titles on PS3

50°
324w ago - In response to a purported sceenshot showing PS2 game downloads for PlayStation 3, Sony says the image "must have been mocked up by an excited consumer."

I'm not sure where the image came from," said Sony's Patrick Seybold, when questioned by GamePro on visible allegations that PS2 games would be coming to the PlayStation Store.

"At this point, we haven't made any announcements, and there are no plans for PS2 downloadable titles on PS3."

Earlier yesterday, an unverified user of the N4G Forums posted the shown photo, claiming to have received the image directly from Sony Europe by way of an insider contact.

According to the anonymous source, Sony will unveil PS2 game downloads while attending E3 next month, this in response to Microsoft's Xbox Originals which debuted on Xbox 360 last year. Despite Sony's denial, said expansion to include PS2 games will happen later this summer, the forum poster said.

Rumor: North American Wii running Japanese WiiWare titles

100°
332w ago - Some hardcore Wii enthusiasts have apparently managed to get Japanese WiiWare titles working on a North American Wii, and provided the "WiiWare Hacked" video below as proof.

To quote: Considering how fast the Wii's piracy scene has been moving, someone will likely soon release instructions on how to bypass microtransactions and install downloadable content updates for free, too.

How long will it be before Nintendo steps in to end these shenanigans? Will that mean the end of Wii homebrew, as well? See, this is why we can't have nice things.

ESRB Rates Possible PS1 Titles For PSN

100°
333w ago - For fans of the original PS1, Sony really hasn't been adding classics to the PlayStation Store at a fast enough pace. There have been a few, of course, but there are many more PS1 greats that should eventually find their way to the Store (for play on both the PS3 and PSP).

Well, according to a PS3Fanboy reader, it seems the ESRB has rated several fantastic PS1 titles that have yet to arrive on the Store. Well, we have to assume that if the ESRB is rating these games again, they're being prepped for another release... It's only common sense. Here's the list:

* Wipeout XL (E-Everyone)
* Jet Moto 3 (E-Everyone)
* Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo (E-Everyone)
* Buster Bros. Collection (E-Everyone)
* Street Fighter Alpha (T-Teen)
* Rayman (E-Everyone)
* Castlevania Chronicles (T-Teen)

Unfortunately, we have no idea when these classics might hit the Store, but we're assuming SCEA will make the announcements some time soon. With the likes of the original Rayman, Castlevania: Chronicles and the fantastic Wipeout XL (one of the best titles ever, in our estimation), this would be great news indeed.
