Sony Announces PS Vita Indie Games Category is Now Live on PSN

78w ago - Sony Product Planning & Platform Software Innovation Director Don Mesa announced today that the PS Vita Indie Games category is now live on PSN.

To quote: PlayStation 3 owners have been enjoying the Indie Games category we introduced on the PlayStation Store last month, and we're happy to announce that the category is now available on PS Vita as well.

This will help PS Vita owners discover the latest indie games, and as you can see in the video above, there are a wide variety of games available today as well as many that will hit the store soon.

Kicking off the category is the launch of Hotline Miami, now available on PS Vita and PlayStation 3. And in the coming months, PS Vita owners will get to enjoy a wealth of fantastic indie games including Spelunky, Terraria, Flower, Luftrausers, Hohokum, Counter-Spy, and many more as we highlighted at our E3 booth.

In fact, there are over 50 indie titles currently in development for PS Vita, with more on the way!

Of course, PS Vita's "Indie Games" category is already loaded with indie favorites including LIMBO, Guacamelee!, Sound Shapes, Machinarium, and Thomas Was Alone. In total, we'll have 53 indie games in this category at launch. Now is the perfect time to catch up on any titles you may have missed.

Video: How to Shmup: Mamorukun Curse from the Makers of Ikaruga

50°
78w ago - UFO Interactive Games Producer Andrew Wang posted up a video today on how to Shmup: Mamorukun Curse from the makers of Ikaruga below.

To quote: Mamorukun Curse! was originally developed by [Register or Login to view links], the co-developers with [Register or Login to view links] on games such as [Register or Login to view links] and [Register or Login to view links].

The rush I got when I first started to understand the ammo-absorbing mechanic in Ikaruga was nothing short of exhilarating, as I'm sure many of you experienced the same!

A great shmup (shoot-em-up) will usually have one or two defining mechanics that makes it stand up way above the rest. For Mamorukun Curse!, that mechanic is the Curse Bullet.

The Curse Bullet is the key to surviving the game's toughest fights, but can also be the double-edged sword that causes the player's downfall. Specifically, the "Curse Bullet" will make a Cursed zone that weakens enemies' defenses but at the same time boosting their shooting pattern.

When defeated, a Cursed enemy gives off the highest amount of candy, Mamorukun Curse!'s collectible items for score, than when defeated normally.

Soul Sacrifice: PSN Demo Out Today, Saves Transfer to Full Game

50°
88w ago - Sony Producer Kumi Yuasa announced that today the Soul Sacrifice PSN demo arrives, and has confirmed that game saves transfer to full game with details below.

To quote: I hope you're ready for Soul Sacrifice - the demo will be available this afternoon on PSN!

Your first reaction to the demo might be, "Holy moly, this is a LOT of demo!" ...And you'd be right! The entire first chapter of the full game is included, all of which is playable with up to three other friends via online or ad-hoc multiplayer. Inafune-san made it a special point for the demo to be quite substantial, as you can read in his comments below:

"The number one reason for the Soul Sacrifice demo to have a lot of content was to show the users the full attraction of Soul Sacrifice. We knew that cutting out a small section of the game and saying, 'Isn't this part fun?' would not show the users the full potential of the game. We figured that it wouldn't make sense if the users could not have the 'I want to play more' feeling.

"So, we decided we want to provide, 'at the very least,' this amount of the game for the users. That is why, if you compare it to a standard demo, this became such a substantial piece. But we are confident that this will not become something negative where the users will feel...
