Hudson: PS3 development too expensive

50°
302w ago - Hudson has ruled out developing and publishing full PS3 games, due to the development costs on Sony's format being too high.

Speaking to Yahoo Japan, Hudson's president Michihiro Ishizuka ruled out making any full PS3 games, due to the high development costs and associated risks of developing for the format.

While this will undoubtedly be something of a disappointment for PS3 owners, given the developer-publisher's recent games, it's not overly surprising.

Although the company has developed a few full 360 games in the form of (the admittedly dire) Bomberman Act: Zero, Fuzion Frenzy 2 and JRPG Far East of Eden, its focus has predominantly lay with the Wii and DS.

That said, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that the company's coding efforts may yet be seen on Sony's console.

Despite ruling out releasing standard boxed titles on the PS3, Ishizuka (according to the translation, anyway) does appear to praise Sony's PSN download service, describing it as "attractive" in the business sense.

It certainly wouldn't surprise us if Hudson developed games started turning up on the PS Store.

Hudson has been very active in the download...

310w ago - One of the most frequently asked questions via e-mail, IRC, and on the Forums we get asked is "How did CJPC get his hands on a PS3 Debug/TEST machine?!"

Some Easter PS3 Development Updates!

400°
316w ago - We have a few PS3 development updates for the new week, including some PS3 KeyVault Project and PS3 Flash news.

To start, resident PS3 Dev subdub has been a bit busy, so he has yet to put the finishing touches on our PS3 KeyVault Server Application. In his absence, both ggparallel and mainman have picked up the slack, and are finishing up the server application. While they are finishing up the app, they are also optimizing the code so it is more versatile as it can auto-update clients, and it will also be able to handle more requests.

Below is a picture of the client application's Web interface that runs on any PS3, including retail consoles via OtherOS. It basically lets you configure the PS3's IP address, check the status of the program, the kernel, and transmitted packets.

Another resident PS3 Dev, who recently received a PS3 TEST unit, is currently awaiting some new hot air rework tools. His PS3 TEST (see HERE) then has an appointment with some solder and wire. We expect to have the flash dumped soon, barring any unforseen circumstances, and then we can analyze the differences in the IPL as well as the mystery detection bits.

Finally,...

Warhawk v1.4 Patch In Development; Features New Game Modes

50°
316w ago - The version 1.3 patch for PlayStation Network title Warhawk, which is set to bring a number of custom aircraft paint schemes and HOME integration to the table, isn't out just yet – but that isn't stopping Dylan Jobe and crew from dropping details on the next major update for Warhawk.

To quote from the blog comment linked above: So while I can't say too much, I can say that the team is hard at work on developing some new game modes.

We have a lot of new designs at various phases of development so I can't say which ones will make the cut for the v 1.4 patch just yet... but rest assured that the next patch *will* have new modes, and of course, they will be free.

Don't forget that the version 1.3 update is scheduled to hit later next week. :P

Rumor: Sony has 20 unknown exclusives in development for PS3

50°
326w ago - In one of those I heard from a friend rumors, a Sony Japan employee has reportedly revealed that Sony's internal studios have over 20 yet to be revealed projects for the PS3.

The only extra bit of information is that ICO is reportedly working on two of these exclusives.

To quote: Yesterday in a heated IM discussion about which of the three console makers is going to have the strongest line-up this year, a friend of mine who works at Sony Computer Entertainment Japan blurted out that Sony's internal studios have up their sleeves more than 20 yet-to-be-revealed projects for PlayStation 3.

Intrigued by this I asked if he could give me some examples. Project Siren (makers of the Forbidden Siren franchise), Team Saru (creators of the Ape Escape series) and Team ICO are three of the studios who're getting ready to reveal their new projects this year. After some more pushing, he told me that all he knows about Team ICO is that the team is working on two games, both for PS3.

My guess now is that Team ICO is indeed working on two games, none of which is for PSP. Most probably one is for PSN (hence the need of staff specialized in networking technology) and the other is headed for a Blu-ray disc release.
