Sony Goes Hands-on with Child of Light for PS4 / PlayStation 4

32w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements has went hands-on today with Child of Light PS4 for the upcoming PlayStation 4 video gaming console.

To quote: With a small build, dainty crown, and a sword too big too wield, Aurora is an unlikely heroine for an adventure. And yet how perfect a character, and champion, for Ubisoft's upcoming JRPG tribute, Child of Light.

This dazzling array of fantasy aims to open the gates to the world of JRPGs for all gamers, welcoming both long-time enthusiasts and complete newcomers.

It€s disarmingly beautiful, lacquered in charm, complexly elegant, and even a little haunting. It€s scheduled for launch sometime in 2014, on PS3 and PS4.

Aurora, our star of the show, is a petite fairy of a girl, and daughter to a duke from Austria. She finds herself in a mysterious land called Lemuria, enjoying the company of an agile little flame named Igniculus. Her adventures to defeat the Black Queen will take her through a host of mystic environs in search of answers and, more importantly, home.

Child of Light is built with the same engine that powers Ubisoft€s recent Rayman games: the dazzling UbiArt Framework. This means Child of light is built with layer upon layer of breathtaking, HD artwork. The characters and scenery move and leap...

Videos: New Driveclub PS4 1080p Footage on PlayStation 4 Arrives

32w ago - Evolution Studios Community Development Manager Jamie Brayshaw is here with some fresh PS4 videos for the weekend showcasing Driveclub 1080p footage on PlayStation 4 below!

To quote: Thanks to everyone that played the DRIVECLUB demo at Gamescom! There were some blindingly quick racers, and even though my team weren't the fastest overall, we earned the most fame points to win the challenge.

So that means that the Gamescom trailer plays out with "Like A Boss" winning, which I'm obviously very happy about! Also, in case you were wondering, the music track is Be Here Now by Hybrid (The Qemists remix).

The reaction we got at the show was fantastic, with over a thousand people trying the demo each day. I spoke to a lot of people playing the game and the key thing that stood out and really connected with people was the concept of "always having something to play for" and "always contributing to the success of your club.€

The fastest racers loved that they could aim for first place on the leaderboard and still play over and above that to beat every challenge in every event.

Everyone else enjoyed being able to focus...

PS4 Virtual Reality Headset to be Revealed at TGS 2013

33w ago - According to CVG (linked above), Sony is preparing to reveal the final piece of its PlayStation 4 hardware strategy at TGS (Tokyo Game Show) 2013 by showcasing a PlayStation-branded virtual reality headset for the upcoming PS4 console.

To quote: "It originally intended to reveal the headset at Gamescom but plans fell through at the eleventh hour. The company is currently weighing up whether the PS4 device should be pitched as a key differentiator for the console or a non-essential add-on.

The matter has been slightly complicated, but not derailed, by the growing industry support for Oculus Rift. Sony's device will be a categorical rival to Oculus, and for months there have been rumours suggesting the two companies are seeking a partnership.

A games developer familiar with Sony's plans, who wished to remain anonymous, told CVG that Evolution Studios is currently working with the device to simulate a cockpit view on its PS4 title Drive Club.

Another developer claimed the virtual reality headset resembles the 3D headset that Sony first revealed in January 2011. The head-mounted display will be available separately, like with the new PlayStation Eye, in order to keep the baseline PS4 price as low as possible.

In August, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida suggested...

Cosmic Star Heroine Coming to PS4, VVVVVV is Hitting PS Vita

50°
33w ago - Today Zeboyd Games Lead Designer Robert Boyd announced that Retro Sci-fi RPG Cosmic Star Heroine is coming to PS4 and PS Vita alongside VVVVVV to PlayStation Vita as well.

To quote: We here at the two-man development studio known as Zeboyd Games are pleased to announce that our next RPG, Cosmic Star Heroine, will be coming out on PS4 and PS Vita next year! And to go along with that announcement, here€s our Sega-CD inspired opening video for our game! Enjoy!

A very special thanks to Dean Dodrill (Dust: An Elysian Tail) who helped out with effects and animation, as well as Chris Geehan and Dan Byrne-McCullough over at Hyperduck (who did the music for our last RPG) for helping make that video go to 11! And of course, our own Bill Stiernberg, who handled the brunt of the work!

Cosmic Star Heroine is our latest attempt to recapture the feel of some of the classic RPGs of the 90s, while putting our own unique spin on the whole experience. Inspired by games like Chrono Trigger (visual style, on-map battles, combo techniques), the Phantasy Star series (overall feel of the worlds and characters), and the Suikoden series (political intrigue, expandable player headquarters), we can€t wait to share Cosmic Star Heroine with you!
