Video: ZPack for PS3 - The First PlayStation 3 Backup System?!

1350°
239w ago - Below is a video from TheIndianKhan on YouTube and some info on Zpack for PS3, which claims (ZPack FAQ) to be the first PlayStation 3 backup system.

To quote: I found this in my holiday in Korea, there are PS3 cafes which run their games from external harddisk without using the original disks. I am one of the first who tested this Zpack System.

Zpack is the first working Backup System for PlayStation 3. It was especially designed for PlayStation Cafes across the world to avoid damaging your original game disk and beware them to be stolen by customers. You will not need the original disk to play on your PS3 anymore just start any game you have directly from your external hard disk.

Zpack comes to you with a USB Dongle and a DISK with the Zpack Software, which you only need the first time for installation. The USB dongle have to be connected to your PS3 all the time. When you run a PlayStation Cafe with 8 PlayStation Terminals, you will need 8 Zpacks for each PS3 Terminal to run the games from the external drives. Please pay Attention for our Zpack bundles.

850°
253w ago - Recently Dutch user Sinnerman has leaked some new PS3 JIG pictures on the QJ.net (linked above) forums, and has revealed that PlayStation 3 Service Mode testing is underway with SKFU.

The application pictured below is used to create registry files required to finalize the PlayStation 3 JIG (SVC-H3A606SS) process, which must contain a valid e-mail address as they are authenticated with the SCEI server.

While we await the test results (and hopefully some PS3 JIG internal pictures), some related articles on both Sony's elusive PS3 JIG and PS3 Service Mode are as follows for those who may have missed them: PlayStation 3 Service Mode JIG Set-Up Files Leaked, Some PlayStation 3 Service Mode Details and finally PS3 Controller EEPROM Dumped And Service Mode Information.

Finally, the big question.. what if PS3 Retail consoles could be converted to PS3 Debug consoles through the PS3 JIG? Well, depending on the post-modification differences...

BUZZ Studio Cheat Bug for PlayStation 3 Uncovered

400°
259w ago - Today SKFU has uncovered a BUZZ Studio cheat bug for PS3. To quote from his page, linked above:

You're playing BUZZ Studio in PlayStation HOME and you never win? I found a simple trick to win always, it's lame to cheat but well... hehe^^

When you join a game there's a XML file sent to the PlayStation with all questions and answers which will appear in the current game. It looks like this [Register or Login to view links].

You will notice a simple false/true structure, so it is pretty easy to find the correct answer before the BUZZ time limit ends.

So if you want to win, sniff the traffic while joining a BUZZ Studio game, copy and paste the URL of the XML which appears in the traffic-data in a web browser and you have a chance ;-)

Project Ideas: Possibilities of the PlayStation 3 XMB Interface

550°
266w ago - Recently SKFU shared some details on a PC / PS3 Messenger project in development, and over the weekend he has also theorized on some other untapped potential via the PS3's XMB (Cross Media Bar) interface.

To quote: The XMB is a nice core for a lot of features but why are they not unlocked yet? To mention a few examples:

Selfmade Widgets
The PS3 uses a widget engine based on open source for the information board. So why not give us the ability to load our own homebrew widget's from external mediums or install them like themes? As they mostly use XML and flash files it wouldn't even compromise PS3's security.

Music Visualizations
The PSP has a lot of them, the PS3 only three. Next-Gen multimedia entertainment? Not really, yet.

Universal Messenger
The PSP can use Skype, why not the PS3? The PS3's messaging system is based on Jabber. It would be very simple to allow the PS3 to communicate with iCQ, Google Talk and other instant messenger protocols.

Open File Transfer
Why can we only send pictures with size limitation via the PSN while we would more like to send music files or savegames. If that uses to much ressources like traffic,...
