Video: PlayStation Move Demo Disc Exploit via PS3 JailBreak

700°
213w ago - Today HKKory has shared a video of what he calls a PlayStation Move demo disc exploit via PS3 JailBreak, however, as PSGroove points out the console is already JailBroken so this isn't really an exploit and won't likely lead to anything.

To quote: "The PS3 homebrew news has seemed to slow down, a lot. So I thought I would start making some news. I noticed the demo disc that came with my move, runs off the XMB, and installs demos.

I pondered if the same method could be used for homebrew, or whatever. I backed it up with my manager, and looked in the files. I realized the installs were DATA000.PKG so I renamed a emulator to that, copied it over to move folder, and installed it.

Now I'm not a coder, so I would like to turn this news over to anyone that could make some use of it to further our efforts. But please, remember to credit me, if you work further upon this discovery.

Here are the details:

• Back up Move Demo Disc (10GB)
• Select Install Disc
• Make sure a Disc is in the Drive
• Open Your File Manager
• Open Dev0HD
• Go to folder with rips
• Navigate to BCUS-98263
• PS3_EXTRA
• D001 - D012 have the pkg files.
• Rename desired .pkg to DATA000.PKG (USE CAPITALS ON THE .PKG)

Smackdown vs Raw 2010 Mods for PlayStation 3 Arrive

550°
222w ago - I've have successfully modded the Smackdown 2010 game on the PS3 and can confirm the following:

• The model, texture, wrestler archive (pac) and arc files are exactly the same as the 360 version, therefore these can be interchanged between consoles.
• My X-PacKer 5.0 app which allows for texture editing and injection works perfectly with the ps3format archive files (check [Register or Login to view links] for the app)
• The game installs all the pac files onto the internal ps3 hard drive when you first boot the game up, so all mods to the game must be done on the internal ps3 hard drive.

I'm randomly getting errors that the data on the internal hdd is corrupt when making changes. Not sure why the game does this as yet.

In order to overcome this, I need to replace the edited files with the originals and then boot the game. I then need to exit to the XMB and add the edited files, boot the game again and it loads fine. There could be a checksum somewhere which is storing the filesizes.

• I'm still investigating hacks to the paint tool files, will post info shortly. Check out Mr Mouse's PT Explorer v0.1.7 app on [Register or Login to view links] for more info about this type of hack.

PS3 FTP Server Homebrew Application is Released!

1350°
225w ago - With the start of the real PS3 Scene, people sharing what they have - I decided to code up this little, horribly buggy PS3 FTP server homebrew app.

Download: PS3 FTP Server Homebrew Application / [Register or Login to view links] (Mirror)

It is an FTP Server for the PS3, with it, on a retail with your choice of "hack" to enable unsigned code it allows:

• Full Read/Write access to all of "dev_hdd0" (including save areas, games, VM etc)
• Full Read/Write access to "dev_flash2" and "dev_flash3"
• Full Read/Write access to connected usb devices
• Full Read access to "dev_flash"
• Full Read access to "dev_bdvd"

To use:

Connect with your choice of FTP client - Prefered is the old "ftp" from the command line, however Filezilla seems to work, allowing only one connection, and disabling PASV support.

Furthermore, the Server does not support some commands (like rename, of all things!) so make sure what you do counts!

Use the IP shown on the screen - make sure to have your net connection up and running before hand (wired is so much faster)

Connect to that IP, port 21, use...

PS JailBreak Inside Pics, Details by SKFU & DemonHades Team

700°
227w ago - Yesterday we caught a glimpse of some PS JailBreak Reviews which confirmed PS3 Firmware 3.41 is required, and today we have some PS3 JailBreak details from PlayStation 3 hackers SKFU and the DemonHades Team along with some pictures of the inside of the PS JailBreak (below) courtesy of [Register or Login to view links].

For those who missed it, PS JailBreak was first announced two days ago and is a USB device which allows end-users to play PS3 game back-ups on Sony's PlayStation 3 entertainment system.

Here is what [Register or Login to view links] has to say on it, to quote:

"I just tested the software they uploaded and can confirm it works so far.

I can tell a bit about the backup manager. It seems the software uses bd_emu features to manage the backups. The HDD to use, should have a modified bd emu format, which sets all backups on first position, so the PS3 detects 'em all. Then you can choose the image to boot via the manager.

Video: Project to Run PS1/PS2 Back-ups on PS3 with a Mod-Chip

1150°
232w ago - The DemonHades Spanish PS3 Development team has been working on a project which aims to utilize a mod-chip to run PS1 and PS2 back-ups on a PS3 console without opening it or using switches and have posted up a concept video today.

According to one individual with a highly questionable reputation, this concept project could work because PS1/PS2 discs are authenticated only once on the VSH though liblv2 and the PIC chip would just automate it.

However, if Sony updates liblv2.sprx and more specifically ps1rom.bin so the emulated mechacon is updated it could be patchable.

Finally, to roughly translate from the video's caption:

"This video montage shows the operation of the chip that we are developing to load copies of PS1 and PS2 (if you're retro) in the PS3.

This video shows how to...
