Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational Gets New Courses & Characters

50°
92w ago - Sony International Software Development Senior Producer Tsubasa Inaba has announced today that Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational goes asynchronous today complete with new courses and characters!

Below are the details, to quote: If you haven't played Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational in a while, now is the time! As some of you may already know, we recently released a feature update (patch 1.05). This long awaited update adds the following features:

Turn Based Challenge

Too busy to join a tournament online at a given time/date? Not to worry! By introducing this "Turn Based Challenge" mode, you can now challenge your friends in an asynchronous competition and play head to head, hole by hole.

Players can now also set up 20 different parallel games at any given time. To avoid cheating, there are no re-dos, similar to Daily Tourneys. Short messages (like SMS) are also now enabled, as well as competitive score history between friends.

Additional gameplay updates include:

•Four-player stroke mode enabled in the multiplayer rooms.
•A slot mode added to the online/adhoc, enabling a slot machine style handicap system applied per hole to keep the game interesting in case there is an imbalance between player skills.
•We've...

Video: Indie Horror Hit Lone Survivor is Coming to PS3 and PS Vita

100°
92w ago - Superflat Games developer Jasper Byrne has announced today alongside a video that indie horror hit Lone Survivor is coming to the PS3 and PS Vita consoles.

Below are the details, to quote: It's with great pleasure that I can finally reveal the details of the PS3 and PS Vita versions of our horror game Lone Survivor!

Lone Survivor's rich story continues to provoke heated debate amongst fans and critics alike. The soundtrack has also been consistently praised. I really could never have expected or hoped for such success, from what is a very personal game to me.

But what is Lone Survivor? For those who missed it the first time round, this is a psychological-survival-adventure, where the choice of how to survive is up to you. It's the last record of our nameless, masked protagonist, holed-up in a city full of diseased monsters, starving and exhausted.

When we join him on his quest, he has already begun to question whether what he sees is even real. You can choose to sneak through the game without firing a single shot, or to kill everything in your path.

You can eat and sleep well, or resort to drugs to keep going. You can search for survivors, or try to escape the city alone. You can...

One of the most widely used menus for eCFW on the PS Vita is about to receive a full update, lots of new features, improved code, optimizations, and much more will come with pyMenu 0.4 and you’re about to see what it can offer, but first we’ll do a walkthrough of all the version pyMenu has had and how it has evolved from being a very simplistic menu, to a full fledged XMB replacement.

pyMenu 0.1: The beginning

pyMenu was created in June 2012 as an entry to the VHBL Menu Contest and competed against yMenu (which was also created for that contest). Most of the work in pyMenu had gone to installing the pspsdk and modifying the python interpreter to be able to load homebrews in VHBL.

The little time I had and the time the SDK + interpreter consumed left me with very little time for the actual menu. pyMenu was a pioneer in...

Video: Killzone: Mercenary - Cash is King on PlayStation Vita

50°
93w ago - Sony Social Media Manager Sid Shuman shared a video below today spotlighting Killzone: Mercenary where he states cash is king on PlayStation Vita.

To quote: Not long ago the US and European press got its first hands-on experiences with Killzone: Mercenary, Guerrilla Games Cambridge's upcoming PS Vita shooter. Despite gracing Vita's portable screen, the team behind Mercenary is hellbent on providing a full FPS experience with all the trimmings.

Come September, you'll get a full nine-mission story-driven campaign, an eight-player competitive multiplayer mode, and a collection of bonus challenge missions.

Watch our new video to get the inside story straight from Art Director Tom Jones.

Much has already been said concerning Killzone: Mercenary's graphical fidelity, but I'll add my voice to the choir: This is one fine, fine-looking game. Because Mercenary runs on a modified version of the Killzone 3 rendering engine, you'll see modern niceties such as volumetric lighting and smoke, high-res environment textures, gleaming metal and realistic-looking shadows.

None of this would be out of place for a modern PS3 shooter, but portable gaming rarely sees this level of extreme graphical detail....
