Police: Man Steals PlayStation 3, Says it's to Save His Family

311w ago - Now here's an interesting one, a man robbed a video game store claiming that he needed a PS3 in order to have his family released as they were being held hostage.

The suspect asked the clerk to call the police as his family needed help, but the suspect fled the scene shortly after. Oh, and he was carrying a gun...

To quote: The suspect went into the store, picked out a video game and approached the counter to check out. He pulled out a small handgun and told the store clerk that his family was being held hostage and that he needed a PlayStation 3 in order to have them released.

As he left the store, the suspect told the clerk to call the police, because his family needed help.

Police arrived shortly thereafter, but the suspect had fled the scene.

Xbox 360 starting to show its (R)AGE

200°
312w ago - The differences in PS3 and Xbox 360 hardware capabilities have been debated since the dawn of next-gen, but has the Xbox 360 finally revealed its Achilles heel?

John Carmack of id Software states that the PS3 version of the upcoming cross-platform first person shooter RAGE will look better than the Xbox 360 version of the game. Carmack was quick to add that the reason for the inferior look of the Xbox 360 is a storage problem and not associated with a lack of hardware power.

Despite the obvious oversight of the Xbox 360's DVD drive being a hardware component that is lacking in power (when compared to the Blu-ray drive of the PS3), RAGE's humbling of the consoles hardware abilities raises some doubts for Microsoft's next-gen console. Although at least a year from release, RAGE is not alone in its need for more than a single disc on the Xbox 360. Games such as Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey have already utilised multiple DVD's, with the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII following suit.

Up until now, there has been no trade-off between multiple discs and the graphical power of the Xbox 360, but RAGE demands attention in this area. Carmack claims that id Software will have to use a "different type of compression" for the Xbox 360 version of the game in order to fit it onto two discs....

500°
312w ago - mopx0 has installed Windows Vista 32 bit on the PS3, the whole process takes a huge amount of time and the end result is that the emulation runs very slow as evidenced by the fact it takes nearly 25 minutes to boot to the start menu.

To quote: It's a 100% PS3 based emulation of Microsoft Windows Vista. Its super slow, but it works.

Tutorial: Install Qemu 0.9.1

- Install Vista on your Computer using Qemu and Bochs Bios Rev 1.171 by sshwarts
- Vlite helps speed the install up, Vista's install may take a day or so

- Bochs Bios Revision 1.171 can be found here (http://bochs.cvs.sourceforge.net/bochs/bochs/bios/BIOS-bochs-latest?view=log&pathrev=MAIN)
- You may also need to add this command "-cpu pentium3" for qemu to work right
- Copy the .IMG to your PS3's HDD
- Open Terminal where the Vista IMG is located
- Type qemu -hda vista.img -m 256 -L "Location to Rev 1.171, Drag n Drop" -cpu pentium3
- The -cpu pentium3 option makes it so it doesn't BSOD with error code 7F

It will take about 25 min to fully boot (network connection and audio show up).
