Windows 8 Details Surface, Coming with 128-Bit Support

550°
258w ago - Microsoft's Windows 7 isn't arriving until the October 22nd, however, details have surfaced over the weekend that indicate Windows 8 will come with 128-bit support.

This information was derived from Robert Morgan's [Register or Login to view links] (Google cache), who is a senior research and development engineer at Microsoft.

Needless to say, the information has now been removed from his profile.

To quote: In it, he says he's "working in high security department for research and development involving strategic planning for medium and longterm projects."

He goes on to say his R&D projects include: "128-bit architecture compatibility with the Windows 8 kernel and Windows 9 project plan." He's also responsible for "forming relationships with major partners: Intel, AMD, HP and IBM.

A 128-bit version of Windows 8 would represent the next leap in performance. According to Microsoft's plans to release a new desktop version of Windows every three years, Windows 8 is scheduled to become available in 2012."

Is Windows 7 Gaming Performance Over Vista Worth Trying?

500°
264w ago - How is Windows 7 PC gaming better than Windows Vista gaming?

The Windows 7 64 bit edition seems to handle the 64 bit technology better than both Windows XP x64 and Windows Vista x64.

It seems to do this so well that even the 32 bit programs have extra room to breathe because the system resources and other background programs are able to run in an efficient 64 bit environment.

This is ironic, because many people were under the impression that Windows 7 gaming would not be as good because Windows 7 64 bit would need to use a 32 bit emulator to run 32 bit programs.

That was the case with Windows Vista gaming when you were running Windows Vista x64, but Windows 7 x64 seems to have overcome this problem.

One of other things that people may be worry about when it comes to Windows 7 gaming is compatibility. They want to be assured that they will actually be able to play the game. The good thing about this is that many of the games were designed with Windows 7 gaming compatibility in mind.

Windows 7 is built from Windows Vista so you should not have to worry about Windows 7 gaming compatibility. Windows Vista is compatible with all of the latest games beyond Windows XP.

Finally, Windows 7 was built to be compatible with older software and hardware...

268w ago - Update: A Microsoft spokesperson has confirmed to [Register or Login to view links]: "We are aware of reports of activation exploits that attempt to circumvent activation & validation in Windows 7, and we can assure customers that Microsoft is committed to protecting them from counterfeit and pirated software.

Microsoft strongly advises customers not to download Windows 7 from unauthorized sources. Downloading Windows 7 from peer-to-peer Web sites is piracy, and exposes users to increased risks - such as viruses, Trojans and other malware and malicious code–that usually accompany counterfeit software."

Despite Microsoft firing a [Register or Login to view links] to pirates earlier this year, the anti-piracy tools built into Windows 7 appear to have been beaten by a leaked OEM master key obtained from a Windows 7 Ultimate OEM DVD belonging to system manufacturer Lenovo.

The leaked disc image first surfaced on a [Register or Login to view links], and has since made its way across the globe where users are quickly using the master key to activate machines of any brand.

Proving that the hack does actually work, users...
