104w ago - Today it appears Amazon.com jumped the gun with Sony's suspected God of War: Ascension reveal by publishing the game's product page a day early alongside the PS3 box art and a teaser trailer video below!

To quote from GameInformer.com (linked above): "God of War: Ascension for PlayStation 3 seems to be a prequel to the original trilogy, before Kratos became the Ghost of Sparta.

Not much else is known about the story, however. The listing notes, "Join Kratos as he seeks freedom, redemption, and the clarity to avenge his family in the most ambitious God of War adventure in the series so far."

The product page, which is active at the time of this publishing, also contains a short CG teaser trailer. The listing indicates the game is out sometime in 2013, but no official release date has been revealed."

CCP Reveals The Future of War: Building DUST 514's PS3 Arsenal

50°
113w ago - Today CCP Community Manager CmdrWang has revealed the future of war - building DUST 514's PS3 arsenal below!

To quote: In this post, I wanted to pick a few weapons that changed the way that the development team played when we added them to the game.

Gamers don't always realize how long it can take for a weapon to make the leap from the drawing board to being fully functional and kicking ass in the game. It needs to be concepted, built, textured, animated, weapon logic needs to be engineered, sounds created, various values set up, tested, debugged, and tweaked.

As you can imagine, all this takes quite a while, which means you spend a lot of time playing your game with a limited set of gear. Over time, we add new weapons to the game and they can radically alter the balance of play because they open up new possibilities in combat. Below are some examples.

Heavy Weapons for Heavy Armor...

Let's start with the Minmatar MH82-BCR Personal Autocannon. This is a heavy weapon and, as such, restricted to the heavy dropsuit. As well as being simply devastating in its own right, this weapon really opened up the heavy dropsuit class once we added it to the game.

For some time, the heavy dropsuit wasn't very popular with our internal dev team. It may have...

Video: Ghostlight to Release Agarest: Generations Of War 2

123w ago - Ghostlight Community Manager Ross Brierley has revealed today alongside a video trailer that they will indeed be releasing Agarest: Generations Of War 2 for PS3 via PlayStation Store.

To quote: I'm delighted to reveal that Ghostlight will be working with the wonderful people over at Idea Factory and Aksys to release the magnificent Agarest: Generations of War 2 in Europe, as part of one of fabulous Collector's Editions.

The Story:

One day, the world was enveloped by a mysterious blinding light. The destruction it caused was terrible, even as the light itself was sublime in its beauty, and it made those who witnessed the awesome display think of the unrestrained rage and fury of the divine.

The central continent, from where the light is believed to have originated from, went silent, while at the same time demons began to spread throughout the world like a plague. Amongst the survivors of the catastrophe, that fateful day became known as the "Day of Light."

Sometime after the events of the Day of Light, a young man by the name of Weiss, who had lost all memory of himself, encounters an enigmatic woman named Eva, who introduces herself as an Agent of the Divine.

It is from her that Weiss learns that...

The Future of War: Dust 514's Rapid Deployment Vehicles on PS3

50°
127w ago - CCP Game Designer CCP Remnant is back with details on Dust 514's rapid deployment vehicles in the upcoming PS3 video game below.

To quote: DUST 514 is an MMOFPS coming to PS3 with large-scale vehicle and infantry combat taking place in - and with a real time connection to - the EVE Online universe on PC. Players are able to band up into corporations (e.g. guilds) and wage territorial conquest on thousands of planets.

Following is a thematic description of Rapid Deployment Vehicles, or RDVs. The RDVs deliver vehicles to players on the battlefield, provided that they own the vehicle's blueprint, and are skilled for its operation.

The RDVs are AI driven, with a robust pathfinding system that allows them to deploy anywhere on even the largest battlefields. (We will give more insight into the game's vehicle mechanics in a blog post soon.)

A Sky Lift-class RDV delivering a vehicle.

Shrouded in advanced optical stealth and guided by automated networked navigation systems, the J42 "Sky Lift" RDV (Rapid Deployment Vehicle) drone is able to deliver even the heaviest armor, with pinpoint accuracy, anywhere on the battlefield.

The proliferation of this invaluable tech has changed the face of ground warfare in the EVE universe, giving front-line commanders...

Super Mario War v1.8 PS3 Homebrew Port by Lachrymose Arrives

700°
128w ago - Today PlayStation 3 developer lachrymose has released a Super Mario War v1.8 PS3 port for fans of the classic homebrew game, followed by revision R2 below which allows loading game data from USB and fixes a critical bug.

Download: Super Mario War v1.8 PS3 Homebrew Port / Super Mario War v1.8 PS3 Homebrew Port R2 Bug Fix / Super Mario War v1.8 PS3 Homebrew Port R2 Bug Fix (Mirror)

To quote: I've ported the classic homebrew game, "Super Mario War" to the PlayStation 3. It is created with SDL by these awesome fellows.

For those not familiar, it's a 2D action vs game with up to 4 players. You can even have bots with quite good AI! It's a really great game to be honest. I wouldn't have ported it if it wasn't in my interest.

Everything is working from what I can tell. I only have one controller so I can't test multi-player (can someone test this for me, please?) I believe it should work. Keyboards are also supported.

Controls:

  • X - jump
  • Square - sprint/powerup
  • Start - Pause
  • Select - Exit...
