Rumor: Downloadable PS2 Games Hitting PSN This Summer?

100°
324w ago - This is clearly an unsubstantiated rumor, so take it with a fine grain of salt. According to poster NiTiZ on the N4G Forum (linked above), who claims to have a friend in the know at Sony London, downloadable PS2 titles are coming to the PlayStation 3 this summer.

Normally, we'd brush off rumors like this one, but this same poster also provided an off-screen capture of the PS2 download store in action, as shown below. Needless to say, it looks very legit.

Apparently, Sony will formally announce the store during this year's E3, with a launch following in summer. Plus, this isn't the first time we've caught wind of rumblings regarding downloadable PS2 games.

This rumor may be unsubstantiated, but it's far from unlikely.

Sony starting US movie download service for PS3 this summer

100°
325w ago - According to Engadget: Sony just released a rambling update to it corporate strategy through fiscal year 2010. An interesting read for fans and competitors alike as Sony lays bare initiatives intent on moving Sony from recovery to the "leading global provider of networked consumer electronics and entertainment."

Most notable in the near-term however, is word from Kazuo Hirai, chieftain of Sony Computer Entertainment, that Sony will make a movie download service available to US PlayStation 3 owners this summer -- Japan and Europe at later dates with details coming "next month," presumably at E3.

Moreover, Sony expects its gaming business to achieve profitability by March 2009, the end of the current fiscal year. Of course, we already knew that Sony was prepped to deliver full-length TV shows and movies sometime in 2008 via its North American PLAYSTATION Network.

But summer, eh? Judging by the increased molecular agitation of sidewalk effluence, we'd say that Sony's season of movie downloads is already upon us.

328w ago - SOCOM have announced there will be a couple of ways to get into the Public BETA for SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Confrontation. One will be through a radically different pre-order program (think 'team') the team is working on with one of our retailer friends.

It's currently in planning mode, but I should have some more info soon. Trust me-- all you clan guys are going to love it. Stay tuned. The second option will be to go through Qore. The site hints the BETA will be released this summer.
