  • Lists game title, id, firmware version, size, boot status, and creation date from any directory;
  • Displays game's avatar and background image;
  • Allows game list to be exported to a text file;

PS3Vecx v0.5 - Vectrex PS3 Emulator WIP is Now Available

400°
206w ago - Today Sdw has [Register or Login to view links] a WIP version of PS3Vecx, a Vectrex PS3 emulator for the PlayStation 3 GameOS.

Download: PS3Vecx v0.5 Vectrex PS3 Emulator WIP

From the PS3Vecx ReadMe file: This is a port of the Vectrex emulator "vecx", by Valavan Manohararajah. Done using the PSL1GHT open SDK.

Navigate the menus with d-pad, cross to select.

In game:

D-pad : Vectrex Joystick
Square : Vectrex button 1
Triangle : Vectrex button 2
Cross : Vectrex button 3
Circle : Vectrex button 4
Start : Pause menu

Since I couldn't get directory browsing working in PSL1GHT, I precompiled the emulator with a selection of old calssic and new homebrew ROMs.

This is an early version, there is no sound support and probably some other bugs as well.

Sony on Recent PS3 Hacks, PSN Security Updates Incoming

800°
206w ago - Today Sony has finally spoken out against the recent PS3 Hacks stating they plan to fix the security breaches through a series of PlayStation Network updates including fraudulently unlocked PS3 Trophies.

To quote from ComputerAndVideoGames.com (linked above): "Earlier this week, hackers completely tore apart the console's few remaining lines of defence against running unauthorised code, and subsequently released the first custom PS3 firmware.

Sony has remained quiet on the issue until now, having just told our friends at [Register or Login to view links]: "We are aware of this, and are currently looking into it. We will fix the issues through network updates, but because this is a security issue, we are not able to provide you with any more details."

Hacking groups don't believe this will be possible though, telling the BBC: The complete console is compromised...

Video: PlayStation Move Demo Disc Exploit via PS3 JailBreak

700°
212w ago - Today HKKory has shared a video of what he calls a PlayStation Move demo disc exploit via PS3 JailBreak, however, as PSGroove points out the console is already JailBroken so this isn't really an exploit and won't likely lead to anything.

To quote: "The PS3 homebrew news has seemed to slow down, a lot. So I thought I would start making some news. I noticed the demo disc that came with my move, runs off the XMB, and installs demos.

I pondered if the same method could be used for homebrew, or whatever. I backed it up with my manager, and looked in the files. I realized the installs were DATA000.PKG so I renamed a emulator to that, copied it over to move folder, and installed it.

Now I'm not a coder, so I would like to turn this news over to anyone that could make some use of it to further our efforts. But please, remember to credit me, if you work further upon this discovery.

Here are the details:

• Back up Move Demo Disc (10GB)
• Select Install Disc
• Make sure a Disc is in the Drive
• Open Your File Manager
• Open Dev0HD
• Go to folder with rips
• Navigate to BCUS-98263
• PS3_EXTRA
• D001 - D012 have the pkg files.
• Rename desired .pkg to DATA000.PKG (USE CAPITALS ON THE .PKG)

Smackdown vs Raw 2010 Mods for PlayStation 3 Arrive

550°
220w ago - I've have successfully modded the Smackdown 2010 game on the PS3 and can confirm the following:

• The model, texture, wrestler archive (pac) and arc files are exactly the same as the 360 version, therefore these can be interchanged between consoles.
• My X-PacKer 5.0 app which allows for texture editing and injection works perfectly with the ps3format archive files (check [Register or Login to view links] for the app)
• The game installs all the pac files onto the internal ps3 hard drive when you first boot the game up, so all mods to the game must be done on the internal ps3 hard drive.

I'm randomly getting errors that the data on the internal hdd is corrupt when making changes. Not sure why the game does this as yet.

In order to overcome this, I need to replace the edited files with the originals and then boot the game. I then need to exit to the XMB and add the edited files, boot the game again and it loads fine. There could be a checksum somewhere which is storing the filesizes.

• I'm still investigating hacks to the paint tool files, will post info shortly. Check out Mr Mouse's PT Explorer v0.1.7 app on [Register or Login to view links] for more info about this type of hack.

Here's...
