149w ago - Guerrilla Games Director Victor Zuylen has detailed a comparison of the controls between Killzone 2 and the upcoming PS3 video game Killzone 3.

To quote from the official site, linked above: "For Killzone 3, Guerrilla's developers are aiming to keep the unique sense of weight in the game while ramping up the accuracy and responsiveness of the controls. We talked to Game Director Mathijs de Jonge to get a better idea of the considerations involved with the redesign.

"Our first priority when we started working on the controls for Killzone 3 was to listen closely to Killzone 2's players - what they liked, what they disliked, and how they felt things could be improved," Mathijs says.

"Accuracy and responsiveness consistently came up as the top issues. At the same time, a lot of players were saying they loved the weighty feel."

That might sound contradictory, but one doesn't have to preclude the other. "For the most part, the unique sense of weight in Killzone 2 comes directly from the first-person animations, not from the control scheme," Mathijs explains.

"The speed of movement and the way the camera bobs up and down are consistent with the view of a person carrying around heavy equipment."

149w ago - Today Gameranx.com (linked above) shared some video footage of the newly introduced cinematic deaths in Killzone 3 on Sony's PlayStation 3 entertainment system.

Much like its predecessor, Killzone 3 is strongly influenced by Hollywood realism. Combat sequences such as firefights pack a strong dramatic punch, while still retaining a sense of gritty authenticity.

Cinematic deaths are the logical progression of this design philosophy, adding a variety of spectacular (and sometimes explosive) new ways for Helghast enemies to perish.

For instance, a Helghast drop ships struck by a barrage of W.A.S.P. projectiles doesn't have to simply drop out of the sky; the force of impact can tear off the ship's stabilizers, causing it to bank and spiral wildly out of control before slamming into the ground with a massive explosion. Of course, this also makes it more difficult to predict where the drop ship will come down, as Sev finds out:

150w ago - Currently slated for a February 2011 release, today Adam Sessler has shared a preview video of Killzone 3 for the PlayStation 3 including details on the video game's PlayStation Move compatibility, PS3 3D gameplay, jet packs, weapons and environments.

Developed by Guerrilla Games, Killzone 3 will take place in various harsh environments such as Arctic landscapes, a lethal alien jungle, nuclear wastelands as well as space battles rather than only the city-scape environment which were present in its predecessors.

Another notable new feature is the ability to use jet packs in the game, which were seen in Killzone: Liberation, however, these new jet packs will be used in a different manner than that of those that appeared in Killzone: Liberation.

The game will also feature a revamped close combat melee system which include new brutal melee attacks as well as the ability to string together multiple attacks in a combo.

Unlike its predecessor, Killzone 3 will feature fully destructible environments which is an improvement from its predecessor which featured only partially destructible environments in limited areas.
