193w ago - Today infamous PS3 hacker GeoHot has blogged that users should not update their PS3 entertainment systems to PS3 Firmware v3.21 when it is released this Thursday as it will disable the OtherOS functionality, and as incentive not to update he has promised the very community he isn't sharing details on how to dump lv2 with that he will work on a solution which could include PS3 Custom Firmware.
To quote: "A note to people interested in the exploit and retaining OtherOS support, DO NOT UPDATE. When 3.21 comes out, I will look into a safe way of updating to retain OtherOS support, perhaps something like Hellcat's Recovery Flasher. I never intended to touch CFW, but if that's how you want to play...
Two things, some people seem to think CFW will enable some sort of piracy. It won't. It'll just be a custom version of 3.21 that doesn't lose OtherOS support. Hacking isn't about getting what you didn't pay for, it's about making sure you do get what you did.
And this is about more than this feature right now. It's about whether these companies have the right to take away advertised features from a product you purchased. Imagine if an exploit were found in Safari on the iPhone, but instead...
193w ago - Today Sony's Sr. Director of Corporate Communications & Social Media Patrick Seybold has confirmed that PS3 Firmware update 3.21 is coming on April 1, 2010 and will disable the OtherOS feature!
To quote: The next system software update for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) system will be released on April 1, 2010 (JST), and will disable the "Install Other OS" feature that was available on the PS3 systems prior to the current slimmer models, launched in September 2009.
This feature enabled users to install an operating system, but due to security concerns, Sony Computer Entertainment will remove the functionality through the 3.21 system software update.
In addition, disabling the "Other OS" feature will help ensure that PS3 owners will continue to have access to the broad range of gaming and entertainment content from SCE and its content partners on a more secure system.
Consumers and organizations that currently use the "Other OS" feature can choose not to upgrade their PS3 systems, although the following features will no longer be available;
• Ability to sign in to PlayStation Network and use network features that require signing in to PlayStation Network,...
193w ago - Alongside GOW3 patch update version 1.01, today a new God of War III PS3 glitch discovered allows you to start a game under any difficulty with all the weapons fully maxed out.
While the patch from SCE Santa Monica Studio doesn't fix the glitch yet, it reportedly weighs in at 5377 KB and fixes wireless controller issues many users had.
To activate the PlayStation 3 glitch, simply perform the following, to quote:
1. Unlock Combat Arena by beating the story once and then clearing the Challenges of Olympus mode.
2. In the Combat Arena option screen, set Kratos' Health to "Level 1" and difficulty to "Titan." Set up the Enemies option with creatures that can kill you quickly and start the battle.
3. In the Combat Arena, die five times in a row and the game will prompt you to switch to Easy mode. Select "No" to exit to the main menu.
4. You should hear two different music tracks playing over each other. Furthermore, the Maxed Out! trophy will be unlocked if you didn't already have it. From the main menu, select "New Game" and the difficulty of your choice to activate the glitch.
193w ago - LightBox Interactive President Dylan Jobe has announced news of a Warhawk PS3 Tournament 2010 for both US and EU players today.
To quote: On the heels of our recent price-drop for Warhawk, and for all of our fans both rookies and veterans, we have decided to hold a new Warhawk Competition!
Many of us here in the States have been spending way too much time staring at our brackets so we're opting not to do a traditional "bracketed" tournament based on teams or clans.
Instead, we're going to make this competition more accommodating of the individual player by hosting special Capture the Flag Servers that players can join and play on.
These servers will have their stats tracked separately for the duration of the competition, specifically Points earned, and these stats will be displayed on a new Tab labeled "TOURNY" that we are adding to the Warhawk Web site and this new tab will process and update all the player data periodically.
If you get a kill or flag capture and then immediately go check the "TOURNY" Tab, just be aware that the server churns all the data every 6 hours and your fine, fine combat skills may take a bit of time to be displayed...
