Sony Says More PSOne Games on PlayStation Network Soon

50°
282w ago - Sony's director of hardware marketing, John Koller, has stated that they working on further PSOne additions to the US PlayStation Store and they should be arriving shortly.

To quote: There are many classic PS One games available to download through PlayStation Network in Japan, but we've seen barely any here in the United States (does anyone want to play "2 Xtreme," anyway?)

I didn't ask John Koller, the head of hardware marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America, whether this was changing when we spoke earlier this week. My bad, readers.

But he did follow-up over e-mail last night.

"Yes, we are working on further PSone additions to the PS Store and should see those launch shortly," he said.

Sony Clarifies 14 Million User PlayStation Network Milestone

50°
282w ago - Sony confirms its recently announced network numbers include accounts from both the PlayStation 3 and PSP, but no duplicates; analyst estimates 50 percent of PS3s have gone online.

On Tuesday, Sony made a stir when it announced that its free PlayStation Network had attained 14 million "active users."

The number, revealed to celebrate the PlayStation 3's second birthday, was remarkable, as it appeared to match the 14-million-strong subscriber base for the pay-to-play Xbox Live. Microsoft's online service launched in 2002 and has been a central pillar of its strategy since the Xbox 360 launched in 2005, one year before the PS3.

Three days later, Sony has now clarified what exactly it counts as an active PlayStation Network user. "Seeing as PlayStation Portable does include PlayStation Network services (i.e. games store natively on PSP), yes those numbers do include all PlayStation Network registrations," said a Sony representative.

The rep also said, to guard against duplication, Sony does not count a registration made on the PS3 and then used on the PSP (or vice versa) as two accounts. Like with Xbox Live, the figure also includes multiple accounts used on the same console or in the same household.

So how many PSN users are logging on via the PS3? Sony declined to...

GTi Club+ on Grid for December 4th PlayStation Network Launch

50°
282w ago - Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH will release a completely updated and enhanced version of its popular GTi Club arcade game for PlayStation 3 via the PlayStation Store on December 4th.

Priced just 14,99 Euro, GTi Club+ Rally Cote D'Azur boasts all-new HD visuals and widely expanded gameplay elements.

Press Release: Classic Konami coin-op heads to PLAYSTATION®Network in all-new HD livery

Available exclusively via the PlayStation Store, the 335Mb download is one of the fastest road racers imaginable. A classic race against the clock, GTi Club+ recreates the beauty of its French locale within a giant game map that is gradually opened as the player breaks certain records.

Boasting 720p graphics and running at 60fps, the game offers five distinctly different licensed cars- Austin Mini Cooper, Renault 5, Fiat A112 Abarth, Lancia Delta and the VW Golf GTi- and invites players to compete via the solo mode or against up to seven other people online.

Using timing, hidden short cuts and handbrake turns, GTi Club+ comes into its own when played online. Three difficulty settings can be selected, adjusting the severity of the course in the process, while a Bomb Tag game sees players attempting to eradicate their rivals in an explosive chase mode. The PLAYSTATION®Eye peripheral...

50°
282w ago - 2K Boston Assistant Producer Keith Shetler shared the following via PS Blog today:

Hey there! What's that you say? You love challenging gameplay... and failed underwater utopias?

Then prepare to experience the world of Rapture like never before with the BioShock PS3 Challenge Rooms Add-On Content pack available tomorrow, November 20, for $9.99 only on the PlayStation Network.

I'm Keith Shetler, Assistant Producer at 2K Boston, and I'm very excited to introduce two new play modes with this DLC pack: New Game Plus and Challenge Rooms. Both add new twists to the game millions already love!

New Game Plus allows you to start a new supercharged playthrough of BioShock. Ready for this? You begin the game with any weapons, abilities, and inventory that you collected during a previous playthrough. Always wish you could obliterate Dr. Steinman with your uber grenade launcher? Now you can!

Challenge Rooms are another beast altogether. These are puzzle rooms where the objective is to rescue a Little Sister. Sounds easy enough, right? Dead wrong! Whether it's fighting a Big Daddy without any weapons or surviving room after room of Splicers, Challenge Rooms require equal amounts brain and brawn in order to succeed.

The whole BioShock downloadable content...
