PS JailBreak Soon to Support All PS3 Firmware, BM 1.1 Incoming

1050°
199w ago - Previously it was reported that PSGroove improvements would soon allow it to support all PS3 Firmware versions, and today the official PS JailBreak site reports that they also plan to support all PS3 Firmware versions and that PS3 Backup Manager v1.1 is destined to arrive shortly after October 20th and include some new features.

To quote: "We have now shipped all our loyal dealers and we assure you, the wait has been worthwhile. We apologize for the delay of the support we promised, but it is indeed coming.

We will officially be releasing our support for new firmwares by October 20th, and Backup Manager v1.1 a few days after. It will have all the features that clone makers have been providing, along with some new ones that will blow you all away.

As mentioned in previous news updates, we are still receiving large amounts of mail about our high price compared to our competition, so we will reiterate. Clones are low quality, have high defect rates and will only work on firmware 3.41.

So for all you dealers out there, why buy a product that limits your market? Ours allows you to distribute to all end users and provides your clients with more options."

Medal Of Honor PS3 Requires 3.42, Open Manager Tool Arrives

1300°
199w ago - Update: For those curious exactly why PS3 3.42 Firmware version games won't run with PS3 JailBreak, HERE is why, to quote:

"Apparently with the introduction of 3.42 firmware, Sony added new encryption keys for their games. What this means is all new games will begin using these keys (MOH being the first). Since 3.41 firmware doesn't contain these encryption keys, the firmware can't decrypt and run newer games. When it fails to decrypt a game it produces the error 80010019.

Don't panic just yet, this isn't the end of all hope for playing newer games on 3.41 firmware. If hackers somehow figure out a way to decrypt these newer games' executable (EBOOT.BIN), they could then redistribute the decrypted executable for each new game. Then the new games could be once again playable on 3.41. However, do not get your hopes up as this is a ways off. It seems for now, jailbroken consoles are stuck with the current crop of games."

Previously it was reported that F1 2010 was the first game to require PS3 Firmware 3.42, however, today lineX7 has [Register or Login to view links]...

Deadliest Warrior: The Game on PS3 is Coming to PSN Tomorrow

200°
199w ago - Today Spike Games Creative Director Prithvi Virasinghe has confirmed that Deadliest Warrior: The Game on PS3 is officially coming to PSN tomorrow.

To quote: We are really excited for the launch of [Register or Login to view links] on PlayStation 3! In addition to the game we also have new avatars and themes that went up on September 28th.

If you are a fighting game fan then we hope you enjoy the realistic battle system we created. Prepare to slice and dice (literally) your opponents, but don't be surprised if your opponent also chops off an arm, leg or even your head.

The best advice we can give to new players is: play defense! Be tactical and look for the appropriate opening to strike. This is more a game of timing than it is about button dexterity. One-hit kills can happen so stay alert and don't rush your enemy foolishly.

Sometimes all you need are a few strokes to achieve victory. Because we wanted the game to stay true to the Deadliest Warrior show premise we wanted the warriors to be tough! So when you start playing, don't be surprised if the game is HARD. Because it is!

No really, if you go to the game settings and check the difficulty you notice that we start you on HARD. You're welcome! If you want to slice...

KaKaRoTo on How to Port PL3 to an Exploitable PS3 Firmware

700°
199w ago - Today KaKaRoTo detailed how to port PL3 to an exploitable PS3 Firmware via Github (linked above).

To quote: "How to port to a new Firmware (but < 3.41) :

First disable the JIG mode, and try to bruteforce the position of the payload with a panic payload (add 'b panic' at payload_start in dump_lv2.S), until you can get a hit reliably (see [Register or Login to view links]).

Then replace the payload with the original dump_lv2 payload, and connect the ps3 through ethernet to your PC and run wireshark to capture your dump... Run the payload, then once the ps3 panics (to tell you it's done), you can save your wireshark dump to a file in .pcap format.

Then run the tools/dump_lv2_pcap_to_bin program to dump the lv2 binary from the pcap file captured by wireshark.

Open the dump with IDA, set the processor to 'ppc', then run the dump_lv2_analyzer.idc IDC file from the tools directory to get it analyzed and follow the instructions (set TOC table in IDA options).

Once you are done, set the TOC_TABLE value in PSFreedom/PSGroove and set the syscall_table define in macros.h.S.

Then look for the position of the JIG response offset in the dump by searching for a recognizable string you previously put in there. You can now set the JIG response address...
