Left 4 Dead Creation Tools Coming Next Week

50°
273w ago - While the campaigns that shipped with Left 4 Dead were all pretty good, you do get sick of them after a while. Which is where custom, user-generated campaigns come in.

Next week, Valve will be updating Left 4 Dead so that these custom missions - like the Resident Evil 3 mod we showed you earlier in the day - are both more prominent within the userbase and are easier to download and play.

To quote: Firstly, with this update map creators will be able to package their content into a single file (a .VPK). This will make displaying, downloading and installing the campaigns a cinch for other users.

The game's matchmaking system will also be updated to reflect this, with "extensive support for custom add-on campaigns". Valve explains:

"When creating or searching for a lobby, a new option named "Add-on campaign" will let you select from among the add-on campaigns that you have installed. You can then find games or lobbies as well as create a lobby for that campaign.

You can invite your friends, too. If they do not have the campaign installed, they will automatically be offered and an option to download it."

This is all going to be made possible via the release of the game's SDK (authoring tools), which after a stint in beta are going to be officially rolled out...

Namco Museum Essentials Coming to PlayStation Home in July

100°
274w ago - Japan's Namco Museum Essentials is crossing the pond to America's PlayStation Network this July.

The downloadable app will serve as a hub for various Namco arcade games, such as Pac-man, Galaga, Dig Dug, Dragon Spirit, Xevious, and a new 1080p "re-envisioned" Xevious: Resurrection.

In addition to the standard features (trophies, leaderboards), players will be able to unlock PlayStation Home rewards to proudly display in their virtual apartments.

To quote: Namco Bandai will also be launching a new destination within PlayStation Home simultaneously with the release of Museum Essentials.

It will serve as the hub for all of Namco Bandai's upcoming downloadable games and will include a virtual arcade featuring a trial version of Museum Essentials.

In addition to the free demo, PlayStation Home items can be unlocked for those who visit the space. All in all, it looks as though Home fans (casual and hardcore) will have a lot to look forward to.

Heavy Weapon is Coming to PS3 Today via PlayStation Network!

200°
275w ago - PopCap Games Associate Producer Michael Santora stopped by the PlayStation Blog today to announce news that Heavy Weapon will be hitting PSN today.

To quote: Having grown up on classic arcade shooters and original game consoles, Heavy Weapon holds a special place in my heart. It's a true shooter game that always reminds me of my youth, pumping quarters into machines at the local arcade.

Heavy Weapon was originally developed on the PC for Windows, but it's now found a home on the PLAYSTATION 3. The DUALSHOCK analog sticks give moving & shooting in independent directions a more arcade-like feel. Playing survival mode online or locally with your friends is a great way to earn the "Survive 12 Minutes" PS3 Trophy.

Multiplayer mode lets you play with up to 3 other people so you can play with old friends or new ones!

Heavy Weapon fans can enjoy a new feature created exclusively for the PS3, which is the ability to shoot down and destroy the supply helicopter as it delivers power ups to you. It makes some of the later levels a bit more challenging since you have to pay more attention to your allies while you're shooting down everything else in the sky.

That's all for now. We're working on bringing you [Register or Login to view links]...

276w ago - Update: We experienced a minor glitch this morning with the Buzz space in PlayStation. We know what the issue is and we are working to resolve it as soon as possible. Please check back with the blog for an update on when it will go live.

Today PlayStation Home Community Manager CydoniaX has announced that Photo Sharing is coming to PlayStation Home, as follows:

Greetings, Homies. Fasten your seatbelts, because we have the most exciting news to hit PlayStation Home since Open Beta! We know you loyal Home fans have been asking for media sharing since the get-go, and we're very happy to tell you that the first stage is here!

Photo sharing, the first feature to support user-generated content, is finally coming to PlayStation Home! Starting today, Thursday, June 4th, you'll be able to purchase picture frames in the Mall, upload photos from your hard drive or select from a gallery of default pictures, and then display them in your personal apartments.

So if you've got photos from your latest game tournament that you want to share, all you have to do is upload them, choose the angle and size options for display, and then invite your friends back to your Home pad for your viewing party. Awesome!

But that's not all! As usual, we have more exciting content...
