Nintendo Dates Wii Zapper, Confirms Link's Crossbow

50°
380w ago - Official confirmation from Nintendo that the Wii Zapper interface will indeed come with Link's Crossbow Training packed in and that the remote-housing Wii Zapper will sell for $20 starting Nov. 19.

Link's Crossbow Training drops players into a world in the style of The Legend of Zelda®: Twilight Princess. Players assume the identity of hero Link, who progresses through a series of tests to perfect his crossbow marksmanship. Start with stationary bull's-eyes and graduate to moving targets before defending Link against all kinds of enemies.
Nintendo also confirms a pretty interesting line-up of third-party Wii Zapper support including Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, Ghost Squad and Medal of Honor Heroes 2 which will include single player, arcade mode and support for up to 32 players in multiplayer.

Eyes-On Ghost Squad

380w ago - Sega's light gun tradition continues on Wii. First impressions inside.

Since the first rumblings of Ghost Squad's Wii release, the IGN Wii team has been pretty optimistic for the shooter's reincarnation on Nintendo's newest system. True; Wii doesn't do exact light gun conversion (at least not yet), but at least the IR adaptation has made it possible for games like Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, as well as Duck Hunt clones in Wii Play and the possibility of House of the Dead or Virtua Cop's revival down the road - should SEGA will it. As the first light gun outing for the Japan-based company, SEGA is pushing the spiritual successor of both Virtua Cop and Confidential Mission (another arcade game that had a brief stint on Dreamcast), as Ghost Squad is now heading to Wii.

Ghost Squad is, in nearly every respect, the next Virtua Cop incarnation. The title has changed, and the game is now more robust, but everything from disarming shots to headshots and a precision score multiplier system is all in tact. In addition, Ghost Squad blends the familiar light gun game with borrowed techniques from Confidential Mission, adding in more context-sensitive challenges that take place in tandem with shooting bouts.

Everything from hand-to-hand reflex challenges to wire-cutting and sniping is included in...

Well-crafted 'Metroid' is sure to please fans

381w ago - Hardcore gamers were beginning to wonder if Nintendo had forgotten them

Hardcore gamers were starting to wonder if Nintendo had forgotten about them. The company likes to crow about the smash success of its DS and Wii machines – and about how its expanded the gaming audience to include people like your grandma.

"Metroid Prime 3: Corruption" is proof positive that Nintendo still loves those that stood by them during the leaner GameCube years. This is an extremely well-crafted rollercoaster ride featuring one of the most beloved figures in Nintendo's mascot menagerie, bounty hunter Samus Aran.

In this first-person perspective game, sci-fi heroine Samus must take on an array of space pirates, alien nasties, and ultimately her shadow, the evil Dark Samus. Samus comes packing – she's equipped with a giant multi-purpose cannon attached to her left arm.

Over the course of the game, players will accumulate an arsenal of weapon power-ups like ice missiles, grapple lassos and the deadly screw attack. Samus' suit transforms into a perfect sphere called a Morph Ball at the press of a button, allowing her to roll through tight corridors and slip through narrow openings.

The "Corruption" subtitle comes from Samus' ability to utilize dark matter (called Phazon) to temporarily...

Wiikey firmware 1.9b update confirmed working with clones

50°
381w ago - pacotesan has uploaded a video to Youtube which shows that the Wiikey firmware update leak works fine with clones. So all that talk of clones not being compatible with potential firmware updates seems like a false claim.

He writes: The clones and EVEN THE DUMPED one that you can flash to an ATMEL chip, updates fine with the leaked 1.9B update from the wiikey team... so, future updates should also work fine.
