PlayStation Home v1.3 Coming This September to the PS3

100°
270w ago - PlayStation Home Online Community Specialist Locust_Star has announced today that PlayStation Home v1.3 is coming this September to the PS3 console.

To quote: As announced at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, PlayStation Home's core client will be getting a serious upgrade this fall. And when we say serious, dear readers, we're talking excessive and impressive in quality, extent, and degree. This is the for real deal upgrade!

I got three words to start us off: Universal. Game. Launching. That's right - you can now launch into any PlayStation 3 game directly from Home. Titles that fully support game launching (like Street Fighter IV, Resistance 2, MotorStorm, and Far Cry 2) will be identified by separate icons that appear over an avatar's head and will have varying degrees of additional multiplayer functionality built in.

Simplified game launching will take you from Home to the start menu of your favorite games with ease. Never again will you have to sign out of Home to play with (or against) your friends. Simply insert the disc of your choice while in Home and follow the on screen directions and you'll be good to go.

Shop-a-holics will be stoked to see that an in-store item previewing option will be rolled out. This feature will allow you to preview items of clothing...

Digital Comics Store for Sony's PSP Coming in December

100°
270w ago - Today PlayStation Store Senior Manager Grace Chen has announced that a digital comics store for Sony's PSP is coming in December.

To quote: This December, you will be able to purchase and download from over 1000 digital comics on PlayStation Store (on the PSP and Media Go).

We've partnered with one of the leading comic publishers, Marvel Entertainment, to bring you the biggest names in comics, including Spider-Man, X-Men and the Fantastic Four. Now you are able to view graphic novels for bite-sized entertainment on demand and on the go.

We'll be adding an additional comics tab to the PlayStation Store for PSP, so you'll see different storefronts for your PSP games, downloadable movies & TV shows, and for comics.

Once you download a comic, you'll read it through the digital reader for PSP which has an Autoflow feature that lets you zoom in and out and move from frame to frame on each page. It's really a fantastic way to read and view the comics, because it keeps the integrity of the original print comic.

I'll be back in December to give you a demo of the new "comic store" and the reader for digital comics and graphic novels.

EEDAR Analyst: XBox 360 Price Drop Coming Within a Week

50°
270w ago - According to an analyst with [Register or Login to view links], the Xbox 360 price drop will happen within a week.

That's right, the Xbox 360 price drop will no longer be rumor or speculation seven days from now, says EEDAR's Jesse Divnich.

Instead, the Xbox 360 price drop will be reality within one week's time - and maybe within the current week.

To quote: "EEDAR is pleased to see that the PlayStation 3 has finally dropped in price. The new PlayStation 3 pricing scheme finally makes the Sony console a much more competitive product, relative to its closest rival, the Xbox 360.

In terms of value, the PlayStation 3 is a superior hardware product in comparison to the Xbox 360; however, this is not to suggest that hardware sales will suddenly shift to Sony's favor -- a superior hardware system is only one variable in the equation for next-generation success.

Nevertheless, the PlayStation 3 price cut will act as a positive catalyst that will close the sales gap between the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. This price drop also places the PlayStation 3 at a competitive price to the Wii (retail MSRP $249).

While the target audience for the two platforms varies greatly, some consumers will face a tough decision to purchase the Wii with outdated processing...

Sony Rep: PS3 Price Drop and Backwards Compatibility Coming

650°
271w ago - We've heard numerous PS3 price drop and PS3 backwards compatibility rumors several times over the last few months, but today SCRAWL is reporting the following (albeit unofficial) confirmation from their local Sony Rep, to quote:

"Over at my local GameStop (where I work), our Sony rep stopped in earlier today to update the PlayStation 3 kiosks and check in with us.

I decided to ask him about all the rumors going around on the PlayStation 3 slim. When I asked him about whether or not is coming he told me this:

"All I'm going to say is this: both a price drop and a firmware update with backwards compatibility are coming soon."

Directly from the mouth of a Sony rep. GamesCom is next week, folks. Don't be surprised if you hear the announcement."
