Minority Introduces The Dream-like World of Papo & Yo on PSN

50°
169w ago - Today PlayStation Correspondent Andy Burt has shared details from developer Minority's introduction to the dream-like world of Papo & Yo on PSN.

To quote: Puzzle-platformers are no rare breed on PSN, but one upcoming title, Papo & Yo, is looking to revitalize the genre in a number of intriguing ways.

Introduced in early June, Papo & Yo tells the story of Quico, a young boy who has an unlikely best friend: a giant hulking beast named, appropriately, Monster. Together, the duo must navigate an ethereal world that's reminiscent of a South American town but is set entirely in Quico's imagination. The world itself is made up of dream-like neighborhoods to roam and populated with puzzles to solve.

After getting my hands on the game at E3, it didn't take long to notice the unique approach developer [Register or Login to view links] is taking when it comes to navigation and puzzle solving. Controlling Quico from a third-person perspective, I wandered a bit around Papo & Yo's surreal world.

Players can easily run and jump around the expansive environments, and also use visual cues to direct Monster (as well as a cute little flying robot named Lula) to points of interest. Utilizing all three characters to solve puzzles is key to progressing in the game, and...

Goodbye World PS3 Homebrew Game via PSL1GHT is Released

177w ago - Today PlayStation 3 developer ThatOtherDev has released a PS3 homebrew game he calls Goodbye World made PSL1GHT with the source code below.

To quote: "Hello world" programs are so cliche. So here is my first simple piece of homebrew made using PSL1GHT (everything else I've released for PS3 was made with the leaked SDK).

You control a space ship using the left analog stick well the world relentlessly follows you and pleads for you to stay. There is no real objective, scoring or anything like that. It's a non game.

I've just realized that it doesn't seem to be working at lower resolutions. It works fine in HD with an HDMI cable but when using component cables it just goes to a black screen.

The same thing happens with the RSX test sample (which is what I used as the basis of this) so the problem isn't something I introduced. I'm guessing there is probably some flaw with the videoGetResolution function but that's just a blind assumption. I haven't done any real testing yet or made any attempt to correct the problem. It would be helpful if there was documentation to consult...

Redoubt Introduces PDC World Championship Darts: Pro Tour PS3

50°
207w ago - Today Associate Producer Eric Miller at Redoubt has introduced PDC World Championship Darts: Pro Tour for the PS3 entertainment system via PlayStation Move.

To quote: Developing PDC World Championship Darts: Pro Tour has been great fun, with plenty of challenges involved as well as some perks such as being able to get direct access to the PDC for Character and Environment reference photography, access to top Darts manufacturers such as Harrows and Winmau and getting to meet Sid Waddell and John Gwynn - more on these guys later!

Of course, being one of the first PlayStation Move motion controller titles has made developing this game distinctly different from anything we've been involved with previously.

Unpacking the prototype units we received early in development and getting to play with it in the prototype environment that Sony provide caused quite a stir around the office, with everyone eventually coming over to have a quick go; of course, once we'd implemented it into Darts: Pro Tour they came back again to see how we'd done!

The PlayStation Move is such a natural fit for a Darts game, and it truly feels great to load up the latest build, stand up and fire off a 9-Darter (I've had a lot of practice!) to hear Sid and John exclaim about the spectacle!

Video: Body-On With Kung-Fu LIVE for PSN Across the World

50°
208w ago - Virtual Air Guitar Company CEO Teemu Mäki-Patola has shared a Body-On video today with Kung-Fu LIVE for PSN across the world.

Here is what he had to say about it, to quote: For those of you that missed it, we gave not one, but TWO huge body-on sneak peeks for [Register or Login to view links] at some of the biggest gaming events in the world.

We went to gamescom and PAX Prime to let thousands of players on both sides of the pond step into the action of our game for the first time. We were able to meet up with our fellow ninjas [Register or Login to view links] and [Register or Login to view links] at PAX to get them jumping, kicking, and firing lightning bolts at baddies like never before.

Both shows were a tremendous success for us. With thousands of fans getting a chance to see the game in person, we literally had to use a 'ticket wheel' system where players would take a number and wait for over an hour to be among the first to play the game for just three minutes!

We apologize for the long wait, but we simply cannot thank everyone enough for sticking around...

Video: First Hello World PS3 Arrives, Made with Leaked PS3 SDK

1000°
211w ago - In what may be the most lame video thus far, YouTube user vakalokass has shared one of a Hello World for Sony's PS3 entertainment system today.

Why is it considered lame exactly? Well, for starters the PS3 has been hacked and running code that Sony doesn't approve of for a few weeks now via PS JailBreak- including full PlayStation 3 game backups.

Download: PS3 Hello World

Anyway, those interested can check it out below and be aware it was made with a simple printf application using samples from the leaked PS3 SDK.

Finally, the video's caption simply reads as follows, to quote: "The first HelloWorld in PS3, by The_Marioga and CORAGON"
