Sony Announces Limbo is Free for PlayStation Plus Members, More

50°
7w ago - Sony Senior Community Specialist Kristine Steimer announced today that Limbo is free for PlayStation Plus Members as part of this weeks update!

To quote: I'll be honest with you, in general I won't play creepy/horror games because I'm a total wuss and they give me nightmares.

However, when Limbo came around I pushed past my fears and gave it a try, and I'm really glad I did. Yes, it gave me the heeby-jeebies, but it also took me on a really cool journey with interesting puzzles and extremely subtle storytelling.

Despite its cartoon art style, Limbo nails a creepy atmosphere with its sound direction and limited color palette of black, white and shades of grey. You can download Limbo on PS Vita after the PlayStation Store updates tomorrow, 5/27.

Another fun bonus for our Plus members this week is a Battlefield 4 timed trial which you can read more about here.

Video: Sony Goes Behind the Wheel of Driveclub PS4 on PlayStation 4

50°
7w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Justin Massongill went behind the wheel today in a PS4 video showcasing Driveclub on PlayStation 4 below!

To quote: Driveclub is a game PlayStation fans are likely already pretty familiar with. Originally slated as a PS4 launch title, the socially connected racer has shifted to an October 7th, 2014 release date.

But aspiring drivers needn't fear: the developers at Evolution Studios are making good use of this extra time.

We interview Paul Rustchynsky, Game Director of Driveclub at Judge's Day 2014.

The team at Evolution have been busy ensuring the connected aspects of Driveclub and its interface - dubbed the "dynamic menu" by game director Paul Rustchynsky - are seamlessly integrated into the game.

These, in tandem with a companion app launching alongside the game in October, are what will allow Driveclub to realize Evolution's vision of a truly social racing title.

Having played an earlier incarnation of Driveclub as well as its newest build, I'm in a unique position to be able to see what other differences a few months can make firsthand.

The most immediately apparent upgrade I noticed is in the graphical department. Driveclub...

Sony Offers Harmonix History Lesson: The Origins of Amplitude

50°
7w ago - Sony Product Manager Annette Gonzalez offered fans a Harmonix history lesson today outlining the origins of Amplitude.

To quote: It all began with a geometrical sketch on a white board.

Imagine if you had an octogonal tunnel covered in data. Musical data. Represented over time and space. The player controls a futuristic cyber ship floating through a three-dimensional wireframe.

Notes representing particular sounds from a song are represented across multiple tracks in gems. Beatmatching along these tracks and blasting away the gems releases these sounds, allowing the player to weave in various elements of the song and make music.

This would eventually become what we now know as FreQuency, the 2001 rhythm-action title released on PlayStation 2.

FreQuency made strides in innovation with its addictive, fast-paced, and undoubtedly challenging beatmatching gameplay (both single and multiplayer). FreQuency was also one of the first games to support the PS2 Network Adapter.

Though a title loved by fans, FreQuency didn't quite sell.

"When FreQuency shipped we thought it was going to be huge," said Greg LoPiccolo, Chief...
