143w ago - SCEA San Diego Studios Community Manager Ramone Russell has revealed Naughty Dog's ride in ModNation Racers for PS3 along with news that the online region lock is removed, as follows:
Today's edition kicks off the with some love from our friends from Naughty Dog.
Their Artist Spotlight hit PSN a bit ago, but we wanted to feature it to commemorate the release of the official Nathan Drake Mod and Kart AND the release of the Artist Spotlight content you saw in previous videos.
Artist Spotlight: Naughty Dog
The team at Naughty Dog are no strangers to blockbuster franchises. They've been responsible for some of the biggest titles on every PlayStation console including the Crash Bandicoot series, Jak and Daxter, and most recently Uncharted.
They are no strangers to racing either, Crash Team Racing defined Kart racing on the PlayStation and Jak X Combat Racing (PS2) was an adrenaline ride for all Jak fans. We were excited to see what Naughty Dog's top designers thought once they got their hands on ModNation Races and see them work their magic and get "Un-Karted".
146w ago - A few days back we saw the x3JailBreak PS JailBreak clone in action, and today the PS3 modchip's official site (linked above) is updated stating that shipping will begin tomorrow and there will be an online verification for updates.
They've listed a number of new features, including account based updates (after verification, so clones don't get access to updates),
future expansion promise.
Realizing the existence of much cheaper homebrew hardware options, they're saying their hardwre is competitively priced to those (teensy++ etc).
Here's their update with the list of features, to quote:
• X3JailBreak will start shipping the 100 samples, starting 2moro(today ;p) (sep 3rd to sep 6th).
• Future updates will need a per user-copy basis (to make clones fail to get the updates ;p, which might get circumvented by open source hack methods anyway)
• X3jailbreak.com will be shipping our samples out to 100 selected requests starting Sept 3rd-Sept 6th and x3jailbreak are now taking pre-orders which will start shipping by the end of next week (Sept 10th-13th). Feel free to submit your pre-orders today.
• Our goal at x3jailbreak was to provide you as customers...
147w ago - SCEE Blog Manager James Gallagher has posted up a video from this year's GamesCom showcasing DC Universe Online for Sony's PS3 entertainment system.
To quote: While thousands of eager gamers ran around the show floor at gamescom, behind closed doors, members of the press were treated to demonstrations of some of the hottest upcoming PlayStation 3 games.
One of these was DC Universe Online and I was able to attend and get my first eyes-on of the superhero action MMO running on a PS3.
We jumped straight into a quest, with the developer playing the game choosing a hero based loosely on Batman, with high agility, enabling him to run up walls, a powerful sword and a suitably brooding outfit and cape.
He had been sent by The Caped Crusader to rescue Robin from the clutches of Harley Quinn. First, he had to fight off a horde of cronies using melee and special attacks, including a force field that imprisons foes in a sphere that can be picked up and thrown around the world.
This demonstrated the realistic physics that can be used to your advantage and sets the game apart from other MMOs. One arena was littered with giant balls, in keeping with The Joker's maniacal playground environments. With skilful attacks, you can...
147w ago - President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Andrew House has revealed to GamesIndustry.biz that Sony is currently examining the Online Pass model for first-party PS3, PSP and PSN titles.
Both EA and THQ already use an Online Pass system for their multiplayer titles, allowing publishers to reclaim some money from the used video game market as those buying second-hand will need to purchase an online pass for the multiplayer component of the game.
To quote: "Activision's Bobby Kotick had said his company would like to see a subscription based service, however House seemed to warn against this.
"In terms of just a charge for basic online play, that's something that we have to talk about a lot more and we struggle with a little bit because we feel very vindicated and base a lot of the success of PSN today - a 70 per cent connection rate across consoles - on the fact that we've removed that major initial barrier to entry," concluded House."
Finally, Sony has already implemented a similar pass system for PSP shooter SOCOM:...
