PlayStation Mobile: FuturLab's Beats Slider and Fuel Tiracas

50°
94w ago - FuturLab Managing Director James Marsden has detailed Beats Slider and Fuel Tiracas for Sony's new PlayStation Mobile service today.

To quote: Hello folks! Earlier this year we were shouting about shouting about Velocity, and now we've got some new things to be excited about. We've been hard at work coming up with more simple, elegant and clever ideas, and crafting them into fun and addictive games.

The first of these games is called Beats Slider, and it's called that because you slide beats around. It's simple, rather elegant, and pretty clever too...

Beats Slider - Conquer Those Blasted Slider Puzzles!

Each block of the sliding puzzle represents MIDI data, which is basically musical notation that computers can read. MIDI data can be used to play back any instrument, synthesizer, drum loop or whatever you throw at it, just by changing the instruments or samples that are triggered by it.

So what we've done is allow the player to push a drum loop MIDI pattern into a synthesizer slot, or a melody pattern into a bass line track, and every combination you could think of within the limits of each level. It was quite the brain teaser to write music that can be rearranged in this way whilst still sounding good, but we managed it.

What we're also...

96w ago - Sony PlayStation Digital Platforms Senior Director Jack Buser has announced today that PlayStation Mobile is coming to tablets, smartphones and PS Vita starting on October 3rd, 2012.

CCP Reveals Dust 514's Mobile Command Center for PlayStation 3

100°
142w ago - Game Designer CCP Remnant has revealed details on Dust 514's Mobile Command Center for PlayStation 3 today.

To quote: DUST 514 is an MMOFPS on the PS3 with large-scale vehicle and infantry combat taking place in, and with a real-time connection to, the EVE Online universe on PC.

Players are able to band up into corporations (e.g. guilds) and wage territorial conquest on thousands of planets. What follows is a thematic description of Mobile Command Centers, or MCC's. At 200 meters in length, these vehicles represent the largest, most powerful weapon a team can acquire, and are flown by a team's commander.

Oftentimes, destruction of the MCC means victory on the battlefield (we'll give you more insight into the game's command hierarchy, a system that allows players to form squads that are led by a player commander, in an upcoming post).

A Caelus-class MCC trawls across the battlefield.

Colossal. Imposing. Devastating. Any of these words could describe the MCC, but only one truly sums it up: Control. The MCC is the nerve center of any army, the backbone upon which wars are waged and battles won. It is from here, locked within the confines of a modified hydrostatic pod, that the commander orchestrates the fate of those on the ground below.

He does...
