Video: Halo Legends is Hitting PS3 in 2010 on Blu-ray Disc

272w ago - The CNET article (linked above) entitled "A Halo Release That Will Be Playable on the PS3" is rapidly making Internet headlines today, however, it's a bit misleading.

If you consider watching a Halo movie as 'playing' it on the PS3, then yes it'll be possible next year.

For the rest of us, [Register or Login to view links] has announced that the movie will be coming out on Blu-ray disc, meaning that we'll simply be able to watch it on Sony's PlayStation 3 console.

To quote: "The announcement was made at the 2009 Comic-Con in San Diego. The series will be available for download via Xbox Live this fall. According to Blu-ray.com we can expect to see this on Blu-ray sometime in 2010, so there will finally be a disc labeled Halo that will play on the PS3 for all the Halo fans.

However, since the Xbox 360 doesn't support Blu-ray, it makes you wonder if Blu-ray is in the 360's future? Or maybe the next-gen Xbox?"

Sony: PS3 Blu-ray Issues Are Not Firmware-Related

272w ago - Recently we held a poll here to see how many users experienced issues after updating to PS3 Firmware 3.01, which was released to fix the issues that v3.0 was plagued with.

Most users said they updated to 3.01 fine here, however, elsewhere there are [Register or Login to view links] of v3.01 crippling PS3 consoles- including problems with Blu-ray playback, and in some cases DVD playback issues and audio glitches.

To quote: "Sony has told Eurogamer that a firmware update cannot affect the Blu-ray drive on a PS3. The problem that PS3 owners are reporting following 3.01 is 'not an issue with the firmware'.

Most, if not all, claim to have had no previous problem with their console, but having applied the firmware update discovered Blu-ray films and PS3 games froze and could not continue.

Sony customer services have been telling sufferers that they must send their machine back for repair, which costs £128 if out of one-year warranty, but there's still no real explanation for what's happened."
 

PS3 Dumps Blu-ray Content on the PSP Starting with Godzilla

272w ago - Beginning with Godzilla, which arrives on November 10, 2009, Sony will make it easier for PS3 and PlayStation Portable users to transfer digital copies from Blu-ray Disc for on-the-go watching.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment America will add a new feature to Blu-ray releases allowing owners of the PSP and PlayStation 3 to directly transfer a film to their portable from the PS3.

Currently, Sony includes the digital copy of Blu-ray movies on a separate DVD-ROM for transfer to the PSP.

To quote: "Sony will include the new Blu-ray feature on Nov. 10 release Godzilla, upcoming release The Ugly Truth and select other releases.

For Godzilla, the only Digital Copy included will be the new feature on the Blu-ray disc, meaning that it will only be available to owners of both the PSP and PS3.

For The Ugly Truth, Sony will include a Digital Copy on the Blu-ray Disc for PSP and PS3 owners and on a separate DVD-ROM for transfer to Apple iTunes or the PC."
 

Wipeout HD Officially Announced for Blu-ray Release on PS3

275w ago - Today SCEE has announced PSN hit Wipeout HD will see a Blu-ray release for the PlayStation 3 console.

The release will include the original game, as well as the recently released Fury expansion, all for £19.99 and released on October 16, 2009.

Speculation: Samsung Adds MKV to Blu-ray Players, PS3 Next?

276w ago - With Samsung now having a major advantage, we can only hope that the MKV file format is added to the PS3's accepted format list soon so that converting will be a thing of the past.

At IFA, Samsung [Register or Login to view links] that Blu-ray player models BD-P1600, BD-P3600 and BD-P4600 will support both YouTube and the MKV file format.

Existing players will be able to access those features by upgrading the firmware. The company plans to launch BD recorders in 2010, and is holding a wait-and-see stance towards 3-D.

To quote: "We know our consumers want access to multi-platform content, and the addition of YouTube to our Blu-ray players aims to provide this to them - from the comfort of their living room," added Robert Shaw (General Manager CTV & Home Platforms).
