109w ago - Following up on the ongoing DEX thread and previous leak, today the Sony PS3 Debug / Test Firmware 4.11 update has surfaced for both PlayStation 3 collectors and developers on the PS3 Dev Wiki (linked above) from an anonymous source.

As always, keep in mind these PUP updates will currently NOT install on a retail PS3, and so they are intended for examination and comparison purposes only.

We have 100% confirmed that running this updater on a retail PS3 will not damage it, however, it will give the following error before the installation completes: The data type is not supported. (8002F029)

How to Play PS3 Backups (Less Than / Equal To) 4.11 on Debug (DEX) Consoles (roughly translated)

You will need:

  • Disc Image Generator for PlayStation 3: [Register or Login to view links]
  • The backup of your game;
  • A PS3 DEX configured as described below;
  • A Hard Disk USB vacuum (must be formatted later).

First turn on your console, connect the USB hard drive and navigate to Settings-> Debug Settings.

WARNING: with the next step you will lose ALL data on your hard disk so irreversible.

Select "HDD Format BD Emulator", choose "Quick"...

109w ago - Following up on the recent PS3 C2D CEX to DEX Flash Patcher and PS3Tools GUI Edition v2.6, today I have released a CEX2DEX application that will allow you to extract the METLDR from ANY (NOR / NAND) PlayStation 3 flash dump and create a valid DEX (Debug / Test) flash from the given CEX (Retail) flash.
