Recession-busting $150 Blu-ray Players Coming This Year

200°
271w ago - As Blu-ray market penetration increases, the entry price of Blu-ray Disc players will continue to decrease.

China's Economic Daily News reports that white-box vendors will offer Blu-ray players at approximately a $150 USD price point this year.

Lite-On IT, a prominent Taiwanese disc drive manufacturer, plans to offer a half-height Blu-ray drive for laptops for around $150 USD, according to the newspaper.

White-box vendors are obscure electronics manufacturers, so don't expect to see Sony or Samsung Blu-ray players reach that price point just yet.

PS3 Price Drop Coming Soon Despite Sony Stating Otherwise?

100°
272w ago - We have all seen the reports of Sony stating that there will be not be a price drop for the PlayStation 3 anytime soon, but do you believe this to be true?

I have a very good feeling that Sony will be announcing a price drop for the PlayStation 3 soon in the upcoming months.

The reason why I say this is because many Web sites like Dell and Amazon have dropped the price of the system on their Web site as seen here.

As you can see, Dell has the PS3 priced at $339.99 and just last week Amazon had it listed for a little over $350.

I believe Sony might have a strategy behind this and is working with companies to determine how much they should drop the price of the PlayStation 3. Think about it, if Amazon has the PS3 listed at a little over $350 and there is not much of a sales spike, Sony would see that dropping the system $50 would not be effective.

Now if Dell has the system at $339.99 and the sales jump drastically, Sony would realize that dropping the system more than $50 would be an effective way to sell more consoles.

The reason Sony is saying they do not plan for a price drop anytime soon is because of business....

Bejeweled 2 Coming to Sony's PlayStation Network

50°
272w ago - Today PopCap Games Vice President of Video Game Platforms Greg Canessa announced that Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE) and PopCap have teamed up to bring hit casual game titles to PSN and PlayStation 3 as follows:

Our first title is none other than the classic online puzzle game Bejeweled 2. Many of you may be familiar with the franchise - it has won dozens of awards and has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.

It's our biggest franchise at PopCap and our most successful title, which is why we chose Bejeweled 2 as our first title for PSN and PS3. The game is a natural fit for the platform - it plays great, looks great and is as compelling as ever.

And there is a ton of gameplay in Bejeweled 2 - four different game modes, more than 60 puzzles, power-ups, high-definition graphics and much more. And if you're like me, you'll sit there for hours playing late into the night, wondering why you're unable to pull yourself away!

The team at SOE has been fantastic to work with, and they share our vision of making the best versions of our games possible, with features that are specific to the PS3 platform.

For Bejeweled 2, that means exclusive stuff like Trophy support and PSP remote play, which you'll only find on PSN. We've got similar exclusive...

Savage Moon Coming to PlayStation 3 via PSN Tomorrow

250°
272w ago - Today Fluffy Logic Producer Ana Kronschnabl shared some background on Savage Moon, which is due for release on the PlayStation Network store tomorrow as follows:

For the last few months we've been hard at work on our take on the Tower Defense genre. Although here in the UK we spell it 'defence' ;-).

If you've not played any tower defence games, you're missing out. They are a great off-shoot of real-time strategy games where the player can only build static defences and the enemy is the one on the move. Our art director, Stuart, introduced us to a few of the games on the net and needless to say, work around the office dropped to zero as we got hooked.

At the time we had been given a couple of PS3 development kits by Sony to play around with and we thought, "Wow, we'd love to do our own take on this." We threw around a few ideas then went up to see Sony and surprisingly enough, it turned out that they had been thinking exactly the same thing.

Thus Savage Moon, our first game for the PS3, was born. It is due for release on the PlayStation Network store this week for $9.99...we're very excited.

First off we wanted to give the game a bit of a story. All the tower...

Well, there will be punching. There's also going to be some kicking. And, by all means, do not freak out when you see a character or two jump.

Jokes aside, it's another Guilty Gear game. You pretty much know what you're getting into by now.
