Ubisoft Announces Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands for 2010

260w ago - Today Ubisoft announced that Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands video game is in development and is scheduled to be released May 2010 for consoles and handhelds.

To quote: "Our new title will be true to the Prince of Persia roots and should leverage the fantastic impact the movie is going to have on our franchise," said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot during an investor call this morning.

Guillemot also added the game will be targeted at both hardcore and casual audiences.

Naughty Dog Announces Uncharted 2 Multiplayer Surprise Coming

261w ago - Update: [Register or Login to view links] has now confirmed that The Fort (video below), a brand new multiplayer map supposedly based on the "Fortress" chapter of Drake's Fortune, will arrive on Black Friday.

Changes include adding Global and Friends list Leaderboards to the Multiplayer menu with the following categories: Global Competitive Wins, Global Co-op, Global Kills, Global Money, Friends Competitive Wins, Friends Co-op, Friends Kills, and Friends Money.

They also added a player card to the Multiplayer menu and "The Fort" multiplayer map.

Today Seesmic of Naughty Dog has [Register or Login to view links] that a special surprise is coming for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves PS3 fans later this week, as follows:

"Things are looking up that we're going to have something quite awesome lined up for multiplayer at the end of this week."

Perhaps it's new multiplayer maps, new modes or fresh downloadable content (DLC)... we'll know soon enough!

IBM Announces Cell Processor Development to be Phased Out

262w ago - Update: [Register or Login to view links] has now received clarification on this from IBM, to quote: "only one CPU development cycle is being 'halted' which is the successor to the current PowerXCell-8i cpu. IBM have said they are planning to work on other CPU's in the Cell Processor 'family'."

Today PlayStationUniversity.com (linked above) is reporting that IBM's Vice President David Turek [Register or Login to view links] that Cell processor development will be phased out.

Apparently the planned 32 SPE Cell processor will not be made, and their current PowerXCell 8i will be the company's last entrance in the technology.

To quote: "The Cell Processor was originally the brain child of 'The Father of PlayStation' Ken Kutaragi. It was later co-developed by Sony, IBM and Toshiba; making its way into the PlayStation 3, TV's and super computers.

So what does this mean for Sony and the PlayStation 4? Will this change with IBM pulling out of their own development?

Sony Announces AdhocParty for PSP Will Be Available Soon

263w ago - Update: According to a [Register or Login to view links] by Mike Kebby of the SCEE PlayStation Store Team, Adhoc Party will arrive in Europe on December 22, 2009.

Sony's PSP Marketing Manager Kristin Neirinckx has announced today that AdhocParty for PlayStation Portable will be available soon.

To quote: Great news for all of you Ad Hoc fans out there -adhocParty for the PSP system, which first launched in Japan last year, is coming to North America!

AdhocParty is an online service that allows PSP owners with a PS3 system to connect to one another via the PlayStation Network. It will be available as a free download on the PlayStation Store soon.

So, how does adhocParty work? PSP titles with adhoc mode traditionally require you to play within close proximity to each other. AdhocParty takes advantage of the interoperable capabilities of the PSP and PS3 systems.

It enables you to play games featuring Ad Hoc mode, such as Gran Turismo and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, over the Internet through the PS3. Your PSP connects to the PS3 via Wi-Fi, allowing you to chat online with fellow gamers in North America before jumping into competition...
