Veterinarian Finds Wii Remote In Family Dog

50°
343w ago - The Becknell family from Loveland, CO became extremely concerned when their 3 year old Labrador Retriever started spiting up blood. The X-rays from there emergency visit to the vet showed a mass in the dogs stomach. After reviewing the X-rays with family they agreed it was probably an old remote that they had been letting the dog use as a chew toy.

The Vet gave the dog one teaspoon of Syrup of Ipecac and shortly there after the Lab started vomiting up the contents of his stomach. As expected up came the remote but it was just chunks of the remote. The dog had chewed the remote into little pieces and that wasn't the mass in the X-ray.

"The Vet started massaging the dogs belly and it just came flying out of the dog," said Marie Becknell. I knew what it was right away by the color and shape of it. It was my son's video game remote. The dog had swallowed the boy's Nintendo Wii remote controller.

"The dog spent the night at the Vet and boy's punishment for leaving the controller out was two weeks allowance to replace the Wii remote", said Mrs. Becknell. The dog was fine but the remote had to be tossed.

Super Paper Mario (EUR) bug discovered!

343w ago - When you are playing Super Paper Mario in UK English, German or Spanish, a problem can occur in a very specific situation. Since the situation where the error occurs is so specific, it's very possible that you may not experience any issue at all.

At the start of Chapter 2-2, you will come across a character called Mimi. She will tell you to go to the farthest room on the first floor to meet a character called Merlee. Enter that room and press the green switch. A trap will be triggered, and a spiked ceiling will descend upon Mario. Before the ceiling reaches him, flip into 3D and jump on it to find a key.

If you pick up the key, you won't run into any problems. Use it to open the locked door to Mimi's right. However, if you talk to Mimi without picking up the key, the game will freeze. You will then have to turn off your Wii console and start again from your last save point.

Please note that your game freezing up will not do any damage to your Wii or the game itself, but we do sincerely apologise for this error and the inconvenience caused to your gameplay experience.

While you can avoid the problem as described above, we want to give you the opportunity to replace your Super Paper Mario game disc free of charge with a new version that doesn't contain the error. Details about...

Wii Saves use Elliptic Curve Cryptography

50°
344w ago - therealr recently shared some very interesting information about Wii Saves. To quote:

"It appears a Wii savegame file ends with a certificate chain. The certificates contains a public keypair (the one that is being "certified") and a signature (another number pair) from the signing entity. The number pairs are stored as a compound 60 bit data (first 30 bytes for the first number, and the next 30 bytes for the second). Hence, the first and middle byte is always 00 or 01 for keys, and 00 for signatures. One can check that the keys are indeed NIST B 233 keys using openssls EC_KEY_check_key function (code forthcoming)."

The post continues on to speculate on the certificate structure among other things. Cool stuff indeed for Wii devs!

Subliminal homophobic messages in Super Mario Galaxy boxart?

344w ago - Spotted by several eagle-eyed GameFAQers, the boxart for upcoming title Super Mario Galaxy appears to be a little more sinister than its childish overtones.

Harmless, right? Look at the title carefully, spotting the letters with stars underneath them, and spell it out.

Yes, that's right, you'll end up with U R MR GAY. I kid you not.

After Nintendo pulled Mind Quiz earlier in the year for featuring offensive words at the disabled, the mind starts to wonder if this is just simple human error or deliberate.

After all, as simple as Pac-Man was, you have to wonder if a game based on playing in a darkened room munching pills, running from ghosts and listening to repetitive music would get past the sensors, or indeed, Jack Thompson.
