Video: MotorStorm RC: Run-through of Competitive Online Play

50°
142w ago - Game Director Paul Rustchynsky has posted up a video run-through on the competitive online play in MotorStorm RC for both PS3 and PS Vita today.

To quote: MotorStorm RC is a few short weeks away and already the competitive online cross-play at its heart is igniting intense rivalries.

Here at Evolution Studios there's been a lot of competition for the best performances on every track and we're thrilled that gamers and journalists are experiencing this at special preview events all around the world.

Ahead of getting the opportunity to jump into the competition for yourself, I'm here to give you the low down on just how online competition works with other players - running you through a short video of me competing with Zoe (Evolution Studios QA Manager, who sits on the desk across from me) as I take on her performance in a Hot Lap race.

It's so easy to see what your friends and rivals have been up to and, with super-fast load times on both PS3 and PS Vita, jump into a race instantly to beat their fastest times and wipe the smirk off their face.

Competing like this, on your own schedule, is a perfect fit for both MotorStorm RC and the PlayStation Vita, letting you pick up the game and compete...

Video: PS Vita Running PSP Homebrew via Half-Byte Loader (HBL)

1300°
145w ago - Today PlayStation Vita hacker wololo has shared a video (below) demonstrating several PSP homebrew applications and emulators running on PS Vita using their Half-Byte Loader (HBL).

To quote: In the past days I stabilized HBL for Teck4's exploit and got some major homebrews to work.

In the video below I'm showing a few homebrews running on the PS Vita. I also included Picodrive again to show that fixing the sound issue is relatively easy as it is just a setting in the emulator. Check the video below.

You can see in this video snes9xTYL (super nes emulator), Bookr (pdf reader), CSPSP, T.O.M.E. (text mode rpg), EmuMaster (game boy emulator), Zombie Crisis (FPS), Wagic (which loads about 10 times faster than on a real PSP, this talks for the improved access speed of this new memory stick format), cavestory (platform/adventure), Picodrive (sega genesis emulator), Spider solitaire, ScummVM (point-and-click adventure), Daedalus (N64 emulator, this is not DaedalusX64), FCEU-PSP (Nes emulator). Those are more or less the homebrews I [Register or Login to view links] to HBL users back when HBL was big.

Missing from this video is (unfortunately) gpsp which I couldn't get to run on the Vita, while it ran fine...

146w ago - Following up on the previous update, today Mysis has updated the PS3 Remote Play Loader Runtime Patcher for PlayStation 3 to include several enhancements as outlined below.

Download: [Register or Login to view links] (for PS3 Firmware 3.55) / [Register or Login to view links] (Pack includes the PC software patch too)

From the included ReadMe file via PS3 Developer Wiki, to quote:

Hello fellas,

These patched files should enhance the Remote Play-Feature. Naughty Sony-Developers or propably some smartass manager fcker thought official pc remote play should only be limited to 6x ps3 applications, namely:

  • NPEA00135 (VidZone)
  • BCES00096 (PlayTV)
  • NPEA90028
  • NPEA90029
  • NPJA00001
  • NPJA00046

For 3.55 extract the modified "premo_game_plugin.sprx" + "premo_plugin.sprx" from this package to:

  • dev_flash\vsh\module\

Now for newer firmwares this idea might work:

Video: Doom PSP Homebrew Game Running on PS Vita via HBL

1300°
146w ago - It wasn't long ago that we saw a Sega emulator running on PlayStation Vita, and now homebrew developer wololo has shared a video of the Doom PSP homebrew game running on PS Vita though the Half Byte Loader ([Register or Login to view links]).

To quote: A year and a half ago when I got Doom for PSP to run on the PSP Go, website hackaday noticed it and said “[being able to run Doom is] a prerequisite for any cracked device”. Some people try to run Linux on their hardware at all cost, I prefer Doom.

Today I was able to tweak HBL a bit on the PS Vita to get Doom to run on it. Will I get hackaday’s attention this time too? That’s, hands down, the best fps available on the vita so far, check the video below!

We are aware that this hack will be easily patched by Sony, but we still plan to publicly release it some time soon after the US/EU release of the Vita (we still have to port HBL to the EU/US versions of the game but that shouldn’t have any difficulty).

I also know that some devs are already working on solutions to make it “easier” for people who would want to stay on a low firmware....
