19w ago - Killzone Community Editor Victor Zuylen made available a Killzone: Shadow Fall PS4 Q&A today detailing the creation of Echo and Sinclair.
Below are the details, to quote: As we announced earlier this month, we've secured the amazing talents of David Harewood and Jamie Gray Hyder to portray two key characters from Killzone: Shadow Fall - VSA director Sinclair and Helghast intelligence operative Echo.
But who exactly are Sinclair and Echo, and how did their character designs come about? We asked Assistant Art Director Dan Calvert to shed some light on these enigmatic characters.
PlayStation.Blog: Who are Sinclair and Echo, and what roles do they play in KZ:SF?
Dan Calvert: Sinclair is the head of the Vektan Security Agency - his job is to make sure the balance of power favors Vekta without escalating the cold war into open conflict. Part spymaster - part diplomat, and with a shrewd strategic mind, he is Lucas' direct CO and mentor.
Like Lucas, Echo is an elite operative tasked to cross the wall, and her mission puts them on a collision course. She is extremely dangerous; an equal but opposite reflection of the player character.
PSB: How did the design of these characters evolve?
20w ago - Following up on Sony's PS4 Dev Kit FCC filing, today the Retail PlayStation 4 counterpart has also passed through the FCC with details below.
From Engadget (linked above), to quote: "Sony's PS4 dev kit passed by the FCC roughly a week ago, and now its consumer-oriented counterpart has passed through Uncle Sam's offices.
Not only do the federal documents show the consoles' polished exterior, but they once again note a "max clock frequency" of 2.75GHz, teasing just what kind of horsepower sits inside the black parallelogram.
Though there isn't much more to note in the agency's files, a duo of system labels marked with "Made in China" and "Made in Japan" hint that Hirai and Co. will be manufacturing the hardware in both those territories.
Mark Cerny's wunderconsole won't be hitting store shelves until later this year, but it already has the appropriate paperwork to make the trip stateside."
Finally, according to IGN the system will only consume enough power to generate a temperature between 5 degrees...
20w ago - Today Sony has released some new PS4 (GUI) screenshots of the PlayStation 4's user interface, which include user profiles, the new PlayStation Store, inbox messaging and video sharing.
Below are the details from DigitalSpy.com (linked above), to quote: "The FCC's consumer arm revealed several technical details about the system during its extensive testing, confirming a maximum clock efficiency of 2.75GHz.
The images were issued to coincide with the announcement that the console has passed FCC certification in the US.
It was also revealed that the PS4 will weigh in at 2.8kg - making it considerably lighter than the original PS3 at 5kg, but heavier than the latest 2.1kg slimline models.
Sony's new console will run at a cooler temperature than its predecessor, making it less likely to overheat. The hardware's ideal operating temperature is between 5 and 35 degrees Celsius, compared to the PS3's average of between 45 and 55.
The PS4 will launch this holiday for $399 in North America and £349 in the UK. The console will launch alongside titles including Killzone: Shadow Fall, Drive Club and Knack."
20w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Justin Massongill went hands-on today with Killzone: Shadow Fall on PlayStation 4 with some PS4 footage below in video format.
To quote: At a recent event in New York, I got my hands on Guerrilla Games' upcoming PS4 launch title, Killzone: Shadow Fall.
The game will feel instantly familiar to anyone who's followed the long-running series, but there are enough new features and additions that even the most battle-worn Helghan veterans will want a primer before heading into battle.
The tools at your disposal in Shadow Fall are many: In addition to the requisite bullet-driven armaments, the new OWL drone gives you an enormous tactical advantage. Swipe up on DualShock 4's touchpad to set the OWL into attack mode, point your crosshairs at a space in front of an enemy and press L1 to deploy the drone, which both attacks its target head-on and serves as a distraction while you flank around the other side. The OWL is also incredibly useful when trying to keep track of one of the game's teleporting enemies. Just follow the bullets.
The OWL has other uses, too. Swipe left on the touchpad to put the drone into stun mode, which will incapacitate foes and nearby electronics.
Swipe downward for a drop-anywhere shield, creating last-minute...
21w ago - Recently we reported on a Sony DUH-D1000AA PS4 Dev Kit FCC filing, and now Gizmodo (linked above) has made available a picture of what a PlayStation 4 development unit looks like.
Below are the details, to quote: "The cat may already be out of the bag, but for many months we didn't know what the PS4 looked like.
Now, we know what the retail version will look, but what about the developer box Sony hid during the big reveal and on Jimmy Fallon? Well, here's an exclusive image we've acquired of some developer boxes that were used at E3.
Like any PC you'd build yourself, the guts are what actually matter and in the case of game consoles, the developer units typically just hide final console design. They're never really that attractive, which is the exact opposite of what we'll be seeing this holiday season."
