208w ago - Update #3: PS3 Firmware 3.15 is now a mandatory update, as confirmed by hacked2123.
Update #2: Despite Sony previously stating otherwise, Examiner.com reports that the Data Transfer Utility for the PlayStation 3 can transfer copy-protected saves from one PS3 system to another, to quote: "Even saved data that is copy-protected can be transferred (moved)."
208w ago - Today SCEE PlayStation Network Product Manager James Thorpe has confirmed rumors that PSP Minis are soon coming to the PS3 console, via PlayStation 3 Firmware update 3.15!
To quote: The next system software update for PS3 will be available very soon. Update 3.15 is an optional update and has two key features which are explained below -
'PSP Minis' come to PS3:
We launched minis for PSP back in October but from the 17th December you will be able to enjoy these bite size games on your PS3 as well as your PSP. This firmware update allows the minis emulator to work on PS3 and we are working on getting the majority of the current minis ready for the PS3 from the 17th December.
If you buy a minis game from the 17th it will work on both platforms so if you have a PS3 and a PSP you will only need to buy it once and it will be available to download to your PS3 and your PSP.
If you have already bought a mini for PSP and want to get it on your PS3 as well, just go to your download list in the Store and download it again for free. The game will then work on your PS3 as well. Simple!
211w ago - As a follow-up to our earlier article on news coming out of Sony's Media/Investor Conference is the following:
Sony intends to deliver PS3 3D Gaming in 2010 via Firmware Update.
According to the image from their Slide Presentation [PDF] below, 3D games will be released in line with Sony's 3D strategy and all PlayStation 3 consoles will be upgradeable via PS3 Firmware update to support 3D.
Needless to say, this should come as no surprise as several PS3 3D demos have been available over the last few months, including those from TGS 2009.
