Microsoft Still Offers Boxes for Dead Systems at No Charge

400°
285w ago - A story [Register or Login to view links] earlier today via The Consumerist stated Microsoft had stopped offering free boxes to consumers to ship dead Xbox 360 consoles to replacement centers was recently cleared up.

Here's the official statement:

"Reports that Microsoft now requires consumers to find their own packaging for sending product to Xbox 360 customer support are inaccurate.

Our policy allows customers to choose whether they would like Microsoft to ship them a box and shipping label or print an electronic label and ship their console using their own packaging in an effort to speed up the repair process." – Microsoft Spokesperson

There you have it, if your system dies - hopefully sometime within the three-year warranty - Microsoft will still give you a free box, complete with packaging, to send your Xbox 360 off to virtual heaven.

400°
289w ago - According to pictures below (courtesy of Gemaga, linked above) this eSATA adapter dubbed the PS3 HD Plus PHE-01 latches to the bottom of any PS3 promising connectivity to an external SATA hard disk for some majorly powerful storage capacity.

Sure, there are other ways (such as [Register or Login to view links] or [Register or Login to view links]) of getting massive amounts of bytes onto the PS3.

One can simply swap in a new internal 2.5" SATA into the system, or even just hook up any old USB hard drive with little hassle; however, the latter won't give the same transfer speed as an eSATA.

From the looks of it, the PHE-01 also comes with an additional four USB ports.

Unfortunately, aside from what can be derived from the pictures there aren't any further details on this product yet... time will tell.
