MLB 09 The Show: Attention to Details Help it Shine on PS3

200°
293w ago - MLB 09 The Show Designer Greg Batalucco detailed some of the things that help make the game shine on Sony's PS3 console:

For this year's version we wanted to make the game as accurate as possible and included in MLB 09 The Show are actual team mascots, new and improved stadium jumbotrons with game related movies, K boards, realistic crowds, and improved lighting and skies throughout the stadiums.

All these enhancements add to the overall gaming experience to make MLB 09 The Show as real as it gets.

One of the main things we wanted to accomplish this year is to add as much realism to the stadiums and the crowd as possible.

We've listened to what the community has been telling us: "We want that same experience that we get at a real ballgame, the look and sounds of the crowd, accurate and detailed stadiums, the smell of popcorn and hotdogs, etc." Well we can't add in smells (or can we?) but you can imagine.

We devoted many, many hours of research to get everything as realistic and accurate in detail as possible in hopes of making it seem like you are actually at the game. We want your friend, spouse or whomever, to walk in the room while you are playing the game and say ,"Hey what game are you watching...

MLB 09 The Show - Road to the Show Training Modes for PS3

294w ago - Senior Designer Eddy Cramm has shared an update today covering MLB 09 The Show training modes via PS Blog as follows:

I am here to talk about the new features in Road to the Show. When all of this RTTS stuff started 3 years ago, the whole idea behind it was to give a unique career mode experience that focused exclusively on you. Initially that meant that we would fast-forward you to your events so that you only dealt with your fielding plays and your plate appearances, etc.

Because lets be honest, who wants to sit out in RF during a career mode and watch three groundballs to the infield. It sucked in little league and it sucks in a career mode, too. But as RTTS progressed, our focus grew to be more than that. It became more about giving the user more control of his path to the majors.

Last year really took a huge step in the goals and points system. The guys on the front-end team like Aaron Luke, Kolbe Launchbaugh, and Jeff Ullman have built a pretty nifty system. That's right..."nifty." And from a gameplay standpoint, we have always wanted RTTS to feel like you are doing exactly what you would be doing, from going to Spring training, to working up through the minor leagues, etc.

But success isn't just about what you...

MLB 09 The Show: Road to the Show Enhancements for PS3

50°
295w ago - This MLB 09 The Show update comes courtesy of Designer Aaron Luke via PS Blog today:

Starting with the front-end aspects, the PS3 Create Player system has received some new additions that will allow you to customize even more aspects of your player.

With the new Sounds Of The Show feature, we've been able to support audio customizations that will allow you to pick not only your batter walkup music, but also your reliever entry music and a home run celebration song. In addition to editing custom music, you can also create custom fan chants, cheers, and jeers to assign to your player (or any other player using the Edit Player feature).

The player accessories have also seen upgrades to support a variety of new items including: wrist tape, batting gloves in pockets, glasses, eye black, baggy pants, and stirrup socks for your old schoolers. But the player customization doesn't end with the Create Player process – we've also added in the ability to edit your player any time after creation. You won't be able to edit his position or attributes, but you will have full reign on editing his appearance, accessories, and the all-important player number.

Once you've settled on your player's look, you now have a choice - enter the draft and let your fate be decided by...

MLB 09 The Show - Franchise Mode Enhancements for PS3

50°
297w ago - Senior Designer Kolbe Launchbaugh shared some details today that have gone into the Franchise mode enhancements of MLB 09 The Show. To quote:

When we set out this year's plan, one of our goals was to blow out the personnel aspects of the Franchise experience.

Starting with the beginning of spring training, the rosters you will carry into spring will be those of their real-life counterpart, the long awaited 40-man rosters. Now you will have to manage your Spring Training roster a little more carefully to ensure your young players get the looks they need.

Moving on to the regular season, you will now be dealing with many of the various roster-related items all GMs have to deal with. You will be in control of designating players for assignment, waiver transactions, handling Minor League options, and managing your 40-man roster.

Once in June, you will have the Amateur Draft to participate in. Along with drafting players, the Amateur Draft also includes Supplemental picks for those teams that failed to re-sign Type A or Type B free agents in the offseason.

Once your season hits September, your 25-man roster will expand to the full 40-man where you will then have to decide who get's the call and who doesn't. If your Franchise is successful enough to make the...

298w ago - Public Relations Manager Alex Armour shared the following today via PS Blog:

We wanted to follow up our recent announcement of MLB 09 The Show with a note to introduce the newest cover athlete for the game. This year's spokesperson is [Register or Login to view links] of the Boston Red Sox.

He's the latest star athlete to grace the cover of our MLB franchise following in the footsteps of his teammate David Ortiz as well as recent players such as David Wright of the NY Mets, and Ryan Howard of the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies.

Not only is Pedroia a Gold Glove second baseman and 2008 AL MVP, his work ethic, intensity, and overall game skills make him a perfect fit for our best-selling MLB game.

We're excited to have Pedroia become part of the SCEA baseball family and look forward to his participation in all facets of our campaign. In the meantime, please check out the sweet box art for MLB 09 The Show and we'll check back in with more for you soon.
